Thought I’d put another tip out there. Many of us dry or semi-dry launch and recover. There are many options for bunk lubricant, but my old favorite is no longer available. Liquid Rollers was by far the best that I have used. In it’s absence, I found Slydz-On. It is in a pump sprayer, if the matters, but seems to be doing a pretty good job. Feel free to share here as well. M
This is my first time using this stuff, and I’m really happy with it. It’s been about two months, and it still hasn’t lost its slide. Only $6 at Home Depot👍🏻
Not sure if he made it over here, but a member on the Dark Side started offering Boat Bunk Wax in a spray. Good stuff, too.
@iMacattack Can you remember the member? Think you got some to try also.
I think his nickname was Forest.
That’s him. Forest, have you found your way over under a different alias?
I found his email, sent him a message.
Funny coincidence - I just sprayed my bunks with it this past week. Great minds think alike….
I tried the Boat Bunk Wax several months ago; it’s light years ahead of the silicone sprays and paraffin wax I was using before. After one application I got several months of easy launches; it’s just now starting to take a little more effort to slide her off the trailer. I have two more bottles enroute as we speak……… I give it five stars.
Just ordered some Boat Bunk Wax as well. There is a 10% discount available and free shipping. Looking forward to trying this product.
I took advantage of the discount on the boat bunk wax at the previous site. Can’t really complain about it. Just treated my bunks again last Friday I was impressed how quickly @DBStoots was able to winch up my boat after, but don’t tell him I treated them
right before🤣
I’ve been using ArmorAll for a few years now and it lubricates, provides UV protection, and I use it on the rubrail, Plus all over the interior of my truck.
Thanks…just placed an order with Boat Bunk Wax for my new build.
Before I rub anyone the wrong way, please let me say this response is for relative newcomers. I’m certainly not trying to change the opinion of anyone that’s had a routine for many years.
I previously coated my bunks with Gulf wax after reading previous recommendations to do so. It worked virtually too well for the ramps I use. The bunks were so slick, the boat would slide right off when I wanted it to stay on. In short, I don’t want the slickest product made, I want a minor lubricant boost. More isn’t always better. Anything that makes it easier to slide off, will also make it harder to stay on when you want it to. Dry launching is overstated. You don’t find near as much info on “dry retrieval” because the truth is it’s not always possible unless the ramp is conducive for such a task.
I bought the spray and it did nothing. Maybe I did something wrong…could have been the Gulf Wax residue.
Pro tip- only apply it to the rear half of the bunks.
I dry launch/recover exclusively. I had been using Gulf wax, but in the winter it didn’t work so well, and I was having to reapply frequently. I had some regular ole silicone spray on hand and figured what heck. It’s almost to slick..lol.. I can literally push it off the trailer in the yard, with little effort. I put one application on several months ago, and it’s still extremely slick. If it ever wears off, I’ll definitely only reapply to the last 1/3 of the bunks.
This! Or at least start that way. My boat is a heavier so I’ve learned I’ve got to coat the entire bunks for me to get the level of slickness I want. But started with the back half and worked my way up from there.
Liquid rollers was much slicker than boat bunk wax but apparently that stuff was toxic.
Paraffin wax
Strong like bull
Another vote for Boat Bunk Wax spray, and just leave the top couple feet of the bunks untreated and should be good to go
