What's everyone been catching on fly?

OK, I’m up north for the summer and fished on a local ranchers stretch of the Beaverhead River Tuesday. Got 9 of these guys on the freshly tied Red Beadhead Stick Bugger pictured in the middle.

Big Hole River tomorrow…

I had a really short window to fish this morning. Started on the struggle bus by spooking quite a few reds…just not enough light and the fish weren’t showing themselves. Finally started seeing some tails and a few crawlers on the bank. But instead of landing soft casts in front the fish, my strategy was to whiff completely or hit them on the head with a line drive cast. I’m blaming it on the wind!

Right as it was getting into “must head home quickly” territory, I saw one last fish cruising the bank with shrimp scattering everywhere in front of it. Finally put a decent cast together and landed my one redfish for the morning.

I was using a grizzly rabbit strip fly with some gold flash and silly legs.

Love the Beaverhead. Fished it in the early 90’s with John Sampson. It was popular then.

The current fish population on the Beav rivals what it was in the mid-90’s. It’s a very healthy river with some lightly populated areas which if timed right make for a quiet day.

PS - Sampson has a newer lodge over on the Madison. The Double R near Varney Bridge. Pricey…

That’s one fat bass! On top water?

Just got this little guy a couple hours ago. They were fired up, soon as the fly hit the water he grabbed it.

This is an older catch from Memorial Day weekend, but it was by far my largest flounder on the fly. Caught in a wading spot and was lucky enough to get it up in the kayak for a pic. A really fun fight!

I didn’t see your icon, either, Capt. Lemay. Glad to have you in our ranks!

Nice! Is this a smallmouth from AL?

Those were from Arkansas
