Turtlebox speaker

I am looking for some real world honest reviews about the turtle box original speaker. I’m would be purchasing the gen 3 but all gen reviews are appreciated. I have a Bose soundlink flex that is on its last leg. A new one runs $150 but I was thinking about an upgrade assuming it is an upgrade. They have obviously done a great job with marketing

I’ve had a gen one now for several years. Lives in the garage mostly. Still works fine. Bluetooth has a really decent range. Every once in a while I’ll come into the house and leave it turned on in the garage and wonder why I have no audio on my phone. Then I realize the audio is playing on the Turtlebox out int he garage. The battery probably doesn’t last as long as it used to.

They are the real deal. I was on a trip and they had them on each boat - they lasted all day long (10 hours) and could be heard running WOT in super heavy chop. They can be paired together for stereo sound. If I didn’t have Sonos Move and Roam speakers, I would have one for sure.

I am surprised that Yeti hasn’t bought them or created their own product to compete. Of course, it would be more expensive.

I have a Gen 2 that I have had for a number of years. It beat up, some of the hardware is now rusty and missing a couple rubber feet but it still rocks. No prostaff here, I would buy another if this one dies. Honestly, if we have the right back yard at our next house I will probably have two.

I got a gen 2 this year several months back. It hasn’t seen hard use yet but I’m super happy with it so far. At about 1/4 volume on my phone which is approximately 60-70db at the unit, my battery lasted 25hrs.

Had a gen 1 that crapped out and they gave me a discount on a gen 2. I actually got 2 gen 2s. Love them. I use them for pool parties, when I clean the boat, and travel with them. My buddies stereo went down on his CC and I brought my turtle box and he was thoroughly impressed. They are pricey but they are the real deal.

Thanks for all the first hand knowledge. The stereo on the skiff has given me issues since I bought it just like your buddies @rovster. In any future skiffs I will never install a stereo. Bluetooth portable speakers are just so easy. And with all the feedback sounds like I’ll be listening to a turtlebox.

Amen to that.

The extra power needed, corrosion, additional wiring are all just a hassle IMO. It makes sense on cruisers, but not skiffs. The quality of bluetooth speakers now it just isn’t needed. Plus, you can take the speaker anywhere. I don’t hang in my boat at a sandbar - I can throw the speaker on a float!

I have two! Highly recommended.

I like mine a lot. Well made and sounds good. Use it everywhere not just the boat. It’s louder than I would ever need, easy to use and never had an issue. My biggest problem is forgetting to pack it.

Agree here. Between the technology of batteries along with portable speaker quality, it’s a no brainer.

If you are going to do it, do it right. Take your time and have fun. It is very satisfying when complete.

I just wrapped up my center console stereo project:

It took probably three times longer than it should have, but it feels good!

Man that is a very clean setup. Nice job.

I have a two gen1s that are awesome.

My buddy has two gen2s that are terrible. Will only connect to eachother if they are within 20’ or so.

I’m really curious about the new small one. I think two of those on the skiff would be way better than one medium or large one
