Transomectomy

Not trying to make the purist boat builders cringe. Amateurs gotta do what we gotta do. Summer’s here and we gotta get back on the water.
Guests arriving next week so I had to place the “flat bottomed girl” into the emergency room. Transomectomy was nessacary.

A transomectomy is probably cheaper than a welletectomy(buying a new boat)!

There’s transom replacement then there is Stern replacement :joy:.. I like your approach.

Did you build that skiff?

Looks very similar to the boats I grew up with on Mobile Bay.

Started as a scrap construction lumber challenge, turned out to be a great family and friend project. On her 7th year.

Plywood boats don’t get the love they deserve. I built one similar to yours when I was 14-15 with my dad with the hope it made it through high school. 20 years later she still catches fish. Keep the leaves out of it and paint every couple of years and it’ll last 20 years no problem.

@OBW - welcome to the site and post up pics of that skiff. My son and buddy have an aluminum swiss cheese boat that they are selling. The hull will be tough to repair but the engine is in great shape. I keep thinking they just need to build something skinny like panaceas boat!
