Skiff Music

Full disclosure: I don’t have any music on board when I’m fishing on the skiff. I prefer the sounds of nature, peace and quiet. But if I’m cruising or hanging out at the sandbar, tunes are part of the scene.

So what is everyone listening to lately?

I’m old school. Love the late, great Jimmy Buffet, classic reggae/Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff, other island music. Plus some John Hartford river bluegrass. But I know there are plenty of contemporary artists and I’m always open for downloading more to my iTunes. Except rap and opera.

Whatcha got?

I’m a music ■■■■■! I listen to just about everything really. Buffet is a must for the boat but am a big classic rock fan from the 60’s up. 80’s rock, some 90’s stuff, Elvis, Haggard, Bocephus, Willy, Waylon, a little 90’s hiphop, even some easy listening stuff like Micheal Bolton lol! I can listen to and enjoy pretty much anything within reason. My stepfather was a musician and hell of a guitar player so I think that’s where it came from. As long as it’s got some soul and not “mumble rap” or death metal that is. Not a fan of grunge either but can tolerate it.

I never really cared for TV back then music was my main go to ,but now the closed caption is a benefit

Can’t argue with @Renegade, but you could add the Elovators to that mix

White Stripes or Black Keys on the way out

Panic, Phish, and other jam bands for the ride home

Primarily Buffett, especially his older offerings. Eagles, Petty, Skynyrd and The Outlaws are Southern Rock staples. Jesse Rice and Kurt Stevens round out the playlist.

Check these guys out. They do bluegrass covers of classic songs.

I’m with @JCDesigns I listen to about everything, even grunge..lol. Some of them guys were legitimately talented.
As for newer artists, Cody Jinks, Ward Davis, Whitey Morgan, Whiskey Myers, These next three make really great stuff, but their politics are a bit skewed.. Jason Isabell, Tyler Childers, and Sturgill Simpson.
But I never listen to anything on the boat, or motorcycle.

  2. Music: Buffet (older Buffet for sure!); Late 60’s - 70’s tunes; Jim Morrison (cranked up)!; Toby Keith; Joe Bonomasa; BB King; Kelly McGuire; Whiskey River’s; Allman Brothers … “Love my Music”!

The googans running around burning shorelines, herding redfish and busting up schools blast music loud enough you don’t need a sound system here so I guess whatever they are listening to…

I hate music on my boat. I hate other boats with music. I hate the sound of outboards (including mine).

I want to hear the wind and the waves and the birds.
