Just want to acknowledge the recent loss of life and property resulting from the tragic event:folded_hands:
God bless Texas and the USA💪
Yessir thank you. It’s a terrible situation.
Life is fleeting. So sad.
I cant even follow these stories. So many kids . . .
Sad sad stuff. Praying for all.
Bad stuff indeed. My cousin and the girlfriend’s granddaughter live in Kerrville and my cousin’s daughter lives in Hunt. Thank goodness they are all okay. If you grew up in Texas, you have probably camped on either the Guadalupe, Frio, Comal etc.
Lifelong Austinite here myself and I am located right in the middle of these rivers. I had family vacate, some getting water in their homes. But all fortunately safe.
It is definitely heartbreaking to see to the loss.
Living here my entire life, we have a saying - watch out for floods Memorial Day and the 4th of July. We need a better warning system. The Guadalupe flooded more than 12 hours before the San Gabriel, and those people were not adequately warned to take higher ground. Gates were opened at our dams at midnight, while people were sleeping, and people downstream were not warned to take higher ground. AFAIK, we only get Flash Flood Alert - nothing more specific.
This isn’t pointing fingers, but again, living here my entire life I’ve seen this happen too many times with the same system in place. It will happen again until they create a better warning system.
I didn’t realize this was a common thing for that river. Its kinda crazy the state/county/city/whatever official office gave the camp a certificate of occupancy being built on the ground in a known flood zone.
Just had a look on google earth. All the little camp houses are on the lowest elevation of the property. I know I am totally Monday morning quarterbacking this terrible situation. These houses were built in the 30’s before there were really any engineering or permitting standards.
The water at the camp rose 26 feet in 45 minutes.
The Colorado at San Saba was up 40 feet in less than 24 hours.
They was just saying the water peaked at 7am july 4th, and it was 36 foot
Gaudalupe River rose 26 foot in 45 minutes!as noted by Coconutgroves!
May be another round coming, many prayers offered, many more needed!
With that fast of a rise there is no warning system that’s going to save people who are camping next to the river. I’ve seen enough arguing and finger pointing on social media over this and it’s absolutely sickening how people are acting. It’s very unfortunate when people lose their lives. I have a lot more to say but will keep it to my self because people tend to believe what they want even when presented with facts, especially after the truth comes out later. Let’s all pray for all affected.
The forecast was predicting 3-4 inches of rain, which is a lot, and most prepared accordingly. Then storms dumped 12-15 inches is a short time, in the middle of the night, nothing prepares you for that. As I write this, My wife is attending the memorial service of two of her students who lost their lives in the flood. The vile comments toward the victims who live in this area and specifically the attendees at the girls camp, show there is a portion of society which must Never gain any political power, who should be called out and shamed.
And they should be charged with hate crimes. If anybody else spouted off like they did, all he77 would be breaking loose.
I’ve been through 3 tornadoes this year 2 where damaging. But we’re still here safe a sound. I can’t say that about those folks around the Guadalupe River
Those politicians who are blaming should be ashamed
My God shine perpetual light on those who lost their lives and praise God for all the rescuers. One Coastguard swimmer rescued 175
Social media is not good for our souls.
God rest the victims and comfort their families.
Politics/news/social media are all poison for the soul!
Petty officer Scott Ruskan a swimmer for the Coast Guard on his First Mission Rescued 165 people From the Camp Mystic area, hes 27 yrs old… God Bless Him hes from New Jersey and being called a hero
Amen to that! I agree 100%
Those cadaver Dogs are worth their weight in gold right now as thats the only way your gonna find amything at this point, and the families really need the bodies to have Closure wife said cadaver dogs found 5 or 6 yesterday
