@GeorgiaDrifter - that background looks pretty darned appealing. Kids got me a pipe for Father’s day - hadn’t considered enjoying it during my food smoking time!

All - I could use your help. I’m a lump charcoal guy and have been for a long time. Been using the same model Weber Performance grill for almost 30 years now (I’m on my third one!). Love the way it cooks and we use it 2-4 times a week.

Here’s the problem - Somwhere between grill #2 and my current Weber, the company cheaped out on materials. All my other Webers have lasted 10 years. This one fell apart at the 5 year mark and I’m just fricken pissed.

Anyone have a good recommendation for an alternative that will last? Love the design, love the size (HUGE), but refuse to give Weber another dime after the BS I’ve been through with this one.

@MaverickMA I’m partial to my ā€œlargeā€ Big Green Egg. I’ve used it so much…I know where to set the damper to get the desired temperature. I use it a lot….lump charcoal only. 25 years old and still going strong.

Still I like my steaks on my PK grill.

A custom stainless grill is the only way to defeat rust! I love mine other than stainless the Big green egg grills seem to last because they’re ceramic… my grill is now 100% Stainless my grate was regular steel to start with but i got Shawn At GrateGrates.com to make me a stainless grate now its all good just clean it ever so often with oven cleaner and it looks new…i even have stainless wheels no more flats :+1::cowboy_hat_face: my Buddy built my grill its Huge! With a 3/8 stainless table around the main grill.sorry i still cant post pictures :exploding_head:

@GeorgiaDrifter - I have a large BGE and love it but like you, it is my smoker.

What is a PK grill?

@Silent-Drifter , a stainless would be exactly what I want, any idea who makes a reasonably affordable, good quality one?

Small portable grill like a Weber Kettle. Very nice wanted one at one point but no already have too much….

If i was gonna buy one id prolly go with the Franklin BBQ PIT a lil over 5k but most grills that size are gonna run 6-7k he makes a sweet Smoker Franklinbbqpit.com

When my friend Shawn came over to measure for the stainless grate for my grill he said if i made that it would be 6 or 7 thousand easy :cowboy_hat_face::+1: its a family heirloom no dought ! Funny part is when we first made it we put Wheelbarrow tires on it ,but the grill was so heavy they kept going flat so my Buddy Built a set of stainless wheels haven’t had a flat since

I love the firebox on the Franklin its big like mine!

In reviews… My first stick burner

I have a pellet grill, and egg and now a stick burner. It is already my favorite! I may not go back to the others

It appears that Franklin is not stainless :man_shrugging: the one they show on main page looks stainless ,but i guess its regular steel 1/4"

Theres several people out there building stainless smokers i looked at a few on Reddit ,id take my time and look at several and read…you can not beat stainless! I hate freaking Rust !

@MaverickMA The PK grills are made from cast aluminum so no rust. ā€œPK stands for ā€œportable kitchen.ā€ They’ve been around forever.

Another BGE fan here. I started grilling the Thanksgiving Turkey on there 5 or so years ago and haven’t looked back. Spatchcock a 12lb bird on a large egg and it will be done in 75minutes.
