So my Minnkota Terrova Riptide 80lb 24v trolling motor failed on me. I decided to just replace it instead of trying to replace components, which I’m already regretting. The new one just came, and I didn’t realize it just came with hardwire electrical connection. Hopped on the website, and it looks like they switched the quick connect electrical connection and possibly even the quick release plate in 2023. My motor is from 2020. Does anyone know if I am in for some surgery here to use all the new components or should I be able to scavenge from the old trolling motor and swap in?
I recommend while you are upgrading get a PowerPux. It will mount in the same holes as the MinnKota puck and you won’t have to deal with the external plug and wire all over the deck.
Well now that I have the trolling motor in front of me (boat isn’t stored at my house), short answer is the bolt pattern is the same on the new and old versions. And I realized my motor uses an aftermarket quick connect (Battery Tender) rather than the Minn Kota one. Of course, the studs on that are too big for the standard ring terminal that Minn Kota installs, so I’ll also have to re-terminate the power leads. I guess this will be the opportunity to shorten that cable, too, so I don’t have 3 spare feet sitting around. All in all not too bad. I was worried I’d have to start changing out the parts actually connected to the deck.
