Help Us Improve SkiffHQ — Your Ideas Welcome!

Hey crew,

As we launch SkiffHQ, I want to invite everyone to help us shape this community into a place that feels valuable, welcoming, and genuinely useful.

This thread is a running list of suggestions — things you think are missing, could be better, or ideas that would improve your experience. Whether it’s a category you’d like to see, a feature we should explore, or just a small tweak that would make your day easier — drop it here.

We built SkiffHQ around a few simple principles:

  • Respect and curiosity over ego and noise.
  • Useful content beats synthetic content.
  • Community first — always!

We believe in clean conversation. This isn’t a commercial project. It’s not ad-supported, and we’re not selling your data. It’s a space run by and for the community — one that values firsthand knowledge, thoughtful discussion, and shared curiosity about skiffs and shallow water.

:red_exclamation_mark:We’re not here to replace or compete with any other community.
We have a lot of respect for forums that have come before us. We simply want to offer a different kind of experience — one focused on simplicity, builder-to-builder trust, and putting users first.

Let’s keep this thread positive and constructive. No complaints for the sake of complaining. Think solutions. Think improvements. Even if your idea feels small — it might be the thing someone else didn’t know they needed.

Thanks for being here. Your voice matters.

Not seeing where we can follow threads. How is this done? And much thanks for putting the forum together. Like a breath of fresh salty air heading out before sunup at Port Mansfield, kinda cool, seeing a squadron of pelicans silhoutted a few feet off the water, heading south in a few inches of water. This site is gonna be tits! Woohoo!

To “follow” a thread use the “Bookmark” button below any active thread. Once you bookmarks a thread it can be accessed a couple ways.

First if you go to the top right of your desktop web browser, click on your avatar a dropdown menu will show up. There you’ll see a little bookmark icon.

Secondly from the avatar dropdown you can click on the “Profile” icon, last one, looks like a little person silhouette. A new menu will pop out and select “Activity”, From here you should see in the Activity window a link all the way to the right that says “Bookmark”.

Finally if you want the easy keyboard shortcut method, from anywhere on the forum just press and hold the “g” & “b” keys and it will take you straight to the bookmark list.

Hope that helps.

DB’s used skiff inspection guide is fantastic if it can be added.

Would it be possible to see the members name under the topic they started? Just going off the avatar picture can be tough sometimes.

@ElLobo good question I’ll add it to the list of modifications to investigate thank you!

I’m imagining it somewhere around where the redlines are. If it’s possible, I think it would be helpful.

Any thoughts on removing the 10 character minimum for posting? Not a huge deal but went to reply with “remora” and changed it to “that’s a remora.” I guess it’s a better response but just spitballing here.

A lot of people checking in and new topics, so therefore a lot of things to like! Is there a plan to remove the “you have reached your maximum amount of likes for the day?” I like the way this forum auto locks you out for spam posting( happened to me with my build thread) but I don’t see the need for likes.

@Chrisbrocci Thank you for the feedback! We absolutely need to hear from the members as this is not “my” forum but yours.

There are a lot of things that are set to default based on how the software was designed. I’ve been changing some small settings based on feedback. The threshold to go from TL (Trust Level) 0 to TL 1 is pretty small. So we may hold many of the settings as is for a short while and see how they work as we grow. Cheers!

Maybe a new category. “Morejohn Everything” or “Morejohn builds” … so any discussion Chris post gets pined to the top. Then any home builders can post their boats below. This way we can find all things Morejohn related in one area.

I have found it is difficult to see a new post after you back out of reading a new post. It disappears from the new post list, is there a way not to make the new post disappear after looking at it, or a way to see what post you looked at to try and find them. I find that I read one, but then I can’t find it after going back and reviewing other posts, hard to remember what subject it was posted on.

Hum. I hear what you are saying but not sure how I could do that. By definition a new post is no longer new after it’s read. Thus it’ll drop out of the new post classification.

This one may take a bit to see if I can find a solution. Give me a bit and I’ll see what I can do. It would need to be a user level option.
