Looking at possibly taking the plunge on a brushless trolling motor. I’ve gotten good feedback on the Power-Pole Move, but don’t think I want to plunge quite that deep. Looking at the Garmin Kraken with a 48-inch shaft. Anyone running one? If so, pros and cons please. And how was the mounting install? I’m currently running a MG Xi3 and hoping to use existing holes. But that’s probably too much to ask. LOL
I’ll also have to switch to a 24 volt battery if I go brushless. Will go with LiTime 24/50ah if I do.
I have a Garmin on a customer’s boat I will be running next week and will try it out and report back if no one else replies.
If you use a PowerPux base I’m pretty sure it has universal holes that should fit your holes. I have a white starboard mount PowerPux new in the box if you are interested. My customer changed his mind and got a port side mount and I snagged it from him.
Thanks. I went to West Marine this morning to look at one in person and it’s too heavy and tall to suit my needs. Have also heard of several reports of corrosion issues on nearly-new units.
Leaning towards adding the GPS kit to my Xi3 and keeping it simple.
I’ve heard good feedback on the SIMAD Recon and folks love the joystick remote, that’s the route I’m going to take w/ a powerpux. The 52” shaft model is 66” from top of head to bottom of keel versus the 60” same measurement of the kraken. So too tall also but thought I’d throw the info out.
Thanks @Nibonthefly I looked at those but also too tall/long. I cut the shaft of my Xi3 down to 45 inches.
I ended up going with the GPS kit. Lot cheaper and easier to install. Doubt I’ll use the anchor function much, but the course steering will come in handy at some places I fish.
