Garage Ideas

Oil comes right up and cannot penetrate the concrete. The epoxy seals the pores.

Prepping the area is much easier to do on a new slab since nothing has penetrated or bonded to the cement yet. Applying is like painting walls - you just roll it on.

For shop air I run a 60gal Husky I picked up on sale at home depot with a RapidAir garage kit. You can rough the piping in the walls and drop the manifolds in several locations so you’re never more than a few feet away from an air connection.

Make sure you have enough power. I put a 100 amp sub-panel in which allows me to run the 208v compressor, mig welder, plasma cutter, etc. m32825 nailed it, be sure you have extra spaces for breakers in case you want to add additional circuitry later. Redtail mentioned receptacles, hell yes, put in a bunch and don’t forget the ones above your work benches for battery chargers, hand tools, etc.

As far as organization goes, pegboard is great and several companies make it out of steel and high-density plastic that is more durable than the standard masonite. If you have deep pockets, check out a Levrack system. They are expensive but completely customizable for all types of storage solutions.

If you’re doubling the area for entertainment, run a CAT6 cable from your home’s router (in conduit) to a wifi access point/extender. My shop has it’s own wifi connection because it’s just far enough away from the house that the signal wont pick up. Everything runs on internet connectivity these days so a good wifi signal is always important.

Just my two cents. Good luck with the build.

For attic storage these attic lifts are great to have. I’ve seen them in action but never owned one.

I love the idea of running Cat6 to the shop. I will have to remember that when I eventually build a new shop.
