The thing with pliers is most companies do not make them. Maybe Abel does. They are usually made overseas. So just look at pliers, if yiu find some kind yiu like from a brand, someone else is selling same exact pliers for less most likely. If something is madecin america i will pay more for it, if its made offshore i just go for cheapest of that sryle i can find.
Donnmar Pliers are all made in the USA.
I don’t like side cutters as they pinch when I choke up on them. I do very much like these Dancos:
I’d really love a pair that was about an inch shorter but they don’t make one.
They do make smaller ones, ar least they used to make 5.5", 6.5"and 7.5"
They still do. There is a 6.3 and 5.5 (and some bigger ones). I have both and like the 5.5 the best. https://www.dancopliers.com/5.5-PREMIO-PLIERS
I splurged 5 or 6 years ago and paid up for pair of the Danco Titanium pliers. After using the cheap aluiminum ones for years, never found any that would cut braid well. My Danco’s are still on the first set of cutters and they cut braid clean.
I’m surprised out of all the replies no one but me has Simms pliers. I have two different models made in USA. One is for my little boy so he can remove hooks when he’s on the bow or wading with ne. I want to get us Ruthless Handmade sheaths soon.
I have never gotten into the nice pliers after watching a couple buddies loose theirs over the side never to be found again and another that put a hole in my boat cushion when he sat down cause his pliers stuck out of his sheath to far. I roll with dr. Slick stainless forceps in the 4-6” range. Clip them on a lanyard of some sort and tie/clip a set of cheap stainless line cutters from mfc or loon and go. We have these lanyard setup in all the cars, boats, bags so you never have to remember did I bring my pliers.
I’ve had a pair of Bubba pliers for several years now. No complaints. No rust and they cut well. $50 I think. Honestly I use a pair of $12 boomerang clippers for all my rigging. They cut braid with ease. I have a long nosed pair of Shimano pliers in my rod holder on the boat for deep hooked or toothy fish. I’m usually in board shorts on the boat during the warmer months so I rarely wear the pliers on my belt anymore.
I got a set, used it today! It lives on my truck!
His sheaths are very cool for sure.
I’ve been fortunate enough to get to play with a bunch of different pliers: Abel, Hatch, VS, Danco, Dr. Slick, and a few others as well. I don’t like the Abels; too flashy, too expensive. I love the Hatch pliers, though possibly because I didn’t have to pay full price; might be a little small beyond inshore. VS are fine but not really my vibe. Dr. Slicks are great for the price, but they aren’t as robust and would need to be rinsed religiously. I really like all the Danco Ti pliers that I’ve tried; the Premio USA ones are great, a little less excited about the plastic sheaths on the overseas ones.
But honestly, my favorite pairs of pliers are still my old school Ross Worldwide models made by Ross Reels over 20 years ago. They’re aluminium rather than Ti, but they’re still doing good work for me. Rinse carefully, dry well…that helps.
Yes they make smaller ones but with side cutters, not cutters in the jaws.
