Hi All! Looks like we are getting ready to start a big project in Fort Worth TX, so I am looking for some recs on where to fish. I have been to the BBQ joints down in the Stockyards, and they are awesome…but I don’t want to have to buy new pants.
If I have my choice I will use the fly, although I can spin if needed. Project is right downtown, working on the W Fork of the Trinity near the Clear Fork confluence.
I am thinking bass…what else? Appreciate any insight, and feel free to hit me on the email at NehrkeSM@Gmail to keep it off the www. Thanks!
There is some fishing in the Trinity, although all I know about it is hearsay. However, if you don’t mind a little drive, there is some great fly fishing a couple of hours’ drive south. There are several beautiful rivers and streams to fly fish, with bass, bream, cichlids, carp, white bass, crappies, and channel catfish available. Snag a copy of Aaron Reed’s book Fly Fishing Austin & Central Texas. It contains maps, photographs, access points, and seasonal patterns. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather fish a pristine clear water river than a downtown brown water river. A few years ago the Ultralight Flyfishing group did a group trip to Georgetown. One morning I fished the San Gabriel River 500 yards upstream from IH-35. All I could see was forest and all I could hear was birds. The water was gin clear, and I caught a ton of bass, bream, and cichlids on my half weight and two weight rods.
Thanks for the intel! I live in CO…so def have a preference for crystal clear spring waters…but will be in FTW for work and just looking for a bit of a distraction for after hours to keep me out of trouble. Thanks!
