I’m not great with electrical stuff. I have a switch pro panel on my Cayo. It has 8 switch buttons for Nav, anchor lights, bilge cockpit lights etc. I first noticed it a month ago when getting ready for a fishing trip in the driveway. It had been really damp during the night and when I flipped battery switch on, the Nav lights were on and switch was lit up like I had turned them on. I turned them off but the switch would come back on by itself. Finally quit after drying out. Today I washed down the console and the switch turned itself on again. I could not get it to turn off by tapping button on switch pro panel. I turned off battery and when I turned back on, I could not get switch to turn on now. I’m waiting to see what happens when dried out. I guess I could have popped fuse. Haven’t looked yet. What have I got going on with the water. All other buttons work as they should.
Can you take a picture of the switches? Also a picture from the backside of the panel? You may have to change the switch as it may be compromised.
Most likely a bad switch.
I just went through this with mine. Started with my Anchor light. It was acting the exact same way.
Yep, I didn’t realize how they were rigged up. The switch pad just plugs into the main control panel. It almost has to be the switch pad on the console. Thanks guys.
Agree with previous comments. It sounds like your switch lost its seal, so it is letting moisture in which is closing the circuit and turning on the lights. When it dries, the circuit is open since there is not water jumping the lines.
On a related note - I’ve seen a lot of marine wiring jump negatives. This can cause other switches to not work correctly if another switch or wiring is bad. I’ve rewired my gauges to run their own negatives to a grounding / negative bar that goes directly to a battery. And I also use a dedicated fused power line with a unique color to easily identify what the item is. For example, my GPS is yellow, my NMEA is blue. Each are grounded independently. In short, no jumps.
@STGS did you get a resolution to the issue? If not PM me, got a few questions for you.
Well, Switch Pros is sending me a new panel to try. They are convinced it is just a bad button. Going to plug n play the new panel and send old one in to be repaired under warranty. I’ll know for sure when new switch panel arrives
If you decide that you want to go analog PM me. May have a solution for you. We are seeing a lot of boaters moving away from digital switching because of this issue and others.
10-4. I’ll keep you posted. I am a little concerned the panel went bad in such a short period of time.
Yea, we hear this ALOT! I hope it works long term but if you find yourself interested in ditching digital and go analog let me know. May be able to work a little deal if you don’t mind doing a “user experience” write up/video etc.
P.S. I’m the Digital Marketing Manager @ New Wire Marine
Cheers!
Yep, I have no problem with that. I trust you!!
Well, I installed the new switch pad today and everything works. I made sure and siliconed around switch pad. We will see if that stops it.
