I made an effort. I was told no. I think that is about as much dead horse kicking I have in me. Choosing my battles. This one had a resolution and it’s here. Shutting that door and opening a new one.
No, I don’t like that. They’re using my content to make money or anyone’s for that matter that no longer wants to be part of MS. But it’s the Internet so once it’s there, it’s there.
Really just sent that email to try and in the event that there is a class action. I at least have my email requesting the deletion.

They’re just after posts, they don’t care if it’s FF or some asshat that attacks everyone. I’m admin on a VS site and I asked them last week to get rid of the politics section, since it just devolves into name calling. I’ve been having to justify it all day to them. They’re worried about site traffic taking a hit. Nevermind that it was a super busy forum back before politics ran off most of the people making reports.

IMHO, I feel their tactics are very strange – how they handled the situation on the old site, how they managed the community, how the spoke to the community, how they responded to the community – I just don’t understand. Everything I saw them do was antithetical to driving strong longterm positive growth and community engagement. What I saw was their antics drove off and alienated their community, their product, what it is that they sell. I assume they felt that they were too big to fail. Who would be stupid enough to just start a new community forum from scratch?
There is still a piece of me that hurts for the old site. It was such a part of my life of so long. Now it’s just a bad relationship. Moving onward and upward!

@iMacattack - I think a lot of us are sorry to see MS go downhill - there’s a lot of history there and a lot of posts/material that we’ve left behind.
Having said that, it was time for something new and you gave us that opportunity. The fricken ads on that site were completely out of control and getting worse. This “break” has allowed a certain level of clarity of who we are, the purpose of the forum, and an elimination of a lot of baggage that built up over time.

Dune just responded to me that they aren’t going to remove the section and that we should just moderate it better. It’s just about traffic. That’s what FF is for. They’re ruining it.

I haven’t seen such a big and active forum implode like that in a while. 2Coolfishing used to a great fishing/boating forum. Super active, local meet up, merch sales, and an excellent classified section. The original owner just got too busy running a successful HVAC company and trying to run a very active forum, sold to VScope. Within a year the forum was a shell of what it used to be. Sad

It’s remarkable. Like they’re trying to kill it. The level of incompetence and arrogance is incredible.
I’m not above schadenfreude though. Fun to watch. Even though I’m banned, I go back occasionally to gawk.
This forum is microskiff now. Name change means nothing.

A simple rule of life: when PE buys a company, you stop buying the product.
There are only so many ways to achieve 20% of expense take out…and most business operators have been prepping for sale for years before it happens. There is never enough fat to trim, so the product gets jacked.
