Drop in traffic…

Seems like the other site where they have AI bots has experienced a sharp drop in activity. Wonder how long until they notice, then realize it’s not coming back and why?

I believe the Admin was asked about that, and he said that participation was still good. Time will tell.

Lol. Well he said it so it must be true!

I was finally temporarily banned or deleted. But before so I sent out some private messages to members with my email and then through email, I sent the new skiff HQ site. If you’re still a member send some private messages to those that are still posting to see if they want to come over here. basically I just told them that MS is now no longer member owned or managed by it’s members and it’s just a large corporate money making machine. Don’t mention skiff HQ on the ms site or private messages, needs to be done through email.

I wonder if I’m the perma-ban. Sure hope so! Can’t get back in, but if I could I’d just get banned in 30 seconds.

Just a comment. Their terms of use are clear. If they perceive that you violate them they can remove your ability to speak. So I would ask that you use their site in accordance to their terms.

Also if you read their term carefully it seams to say you are the owner of your content. You give they the right to use it. It would seam to mean that if you inform them that they no longer have the right to publish your content they have to delete it.

I’m not a lawyer. So this is not legal advice. Just my interpretation of what I read. You may have the ability to claim you right to refuse them rights to publish your content. They may be required to remove it.

This may be one way to protect your rights to your content if you no longer wish to be visible on the other site.

Again I’m not a lawyer. Just my opinion. Nothing more.

MS is no longer worthy of my attention. AI has a place, just not here!

…Nothing to see here folks, everything’s fine, kindly move along…

@iMacattack I did notice after I was “removed” that my previous post were no longer under my name. My profile pic and user name were replaced by a number. Might be their legal way around it.

Again not a lawyer but you may be able to tell them they no longer have rights to your content and it must be removed.

It’s worth a good read of their term of use to see if I’m missing something…

Who cares. Done with them.

There are some tools (paid) that do a good job of trending any websites traffic, their datapoints may not be as accurate as say looking at the raw GA4 analytics, but they do a good job of presenting general trends.

There are also free tools that do a respectable job but are less granular. I did a check across multiple “free” tools and the trend was nearly the same across all of them for MS.

There are a few “macro” reason for this due to changes in how GA4 traffic forecasting is calculated (a topic that goes way past my desire to dig into) but it’s sufficient to say the data look pretty clear.

I did the majority of my notices to botsville.com members as a new skiff launch. Included a phrase that it would cut through corporate chop like a hot knife through butter. Most realized the meaning but some may have thought it was spam or weren’t interested.

If you know other members personally who haven’t migrated over yet, invite them by email or give them a call. The word is getting out. VerticalScope seems blind or indifferent to a loss in traffic/participation. Let them explain that to their stockholders.

Working in it. I am using the new posts to find well known, good contributors that are still posting over there. Just dont want to hit then multiple times from multiple people. Any ideas on how to avoid that?

Big accounts like that are willing to dig in their heels, basically we are a small portion of their income. So it’s just a speedbump for them. My daughter is a data engineer and her company downsized their whole (read that again, all of it) data analysis team including her. She managed complex programming for Smithfield foods. She is in the process of applying for data engineering jobs and programming as we speak. She was amazed at what they did, because digging into that data is not easy if you don’t know what’s programmed, but corporations don’t care, it’s just a number until they figure out they don’t have the data and have to reacquaint themselves with the programs. Long story but corporate decisions are impervious to small fluctuations like MS.
Vertiscope will let it sit there and there will probably be a new population of folks that will be on it…just my take on it.

I sent to 250+ emails and Mac contacted 150 more and DB has also reached out to his network.

Not sure how to avoid dupe invites at this point @MaverickMA

Trying to coordinate everyone’s contacts would be like herding cats.

When I was digging through the member rolls prior to this launch, I was surprised at how many new ones were on with less than 20 posts. They are the ones the bot was intended to reach.

If they get the word, are truly interested in our topics and have the initiative to come over, great. If not, they were also the ones who refused to use the Search Function, asked repetitive questions and typically faded fast or put their skiffs on the market quickly because they realized what a specialty craft it was, didn’t want the bank note and couldn’t load the neighborhood on board to soak shrimp.

Wow, easy to see baseline traffic in mid 30’s, jump due to arguments against AI, and now the new baseline around 20, or 34% drop.

All I can say is I hope this sits avoids the bot crap that MS fell into. Ruined it IMO.
