With the recent rains in central Texas, the lakes are rising which brings out the carp. I am fortunate to have some great spots to hit that are nearly as fun as chasing tailing reds and bonefish. Here is a few shots from this past weekend on Lake Buchanan.
And I found my twin!
Here is a quick clip of them tailing all around me.
Carp on the fly are actually very tough. They are super spooky and don’t typically eat aggressively. Casts have to be soft and precise. They can suck in and spit out a fly similar to a permit - you feel a quick tug on the line and before you can react there is slack. So the trick is a long, slow strip similar to permit fishing. Many times, you are watching for a gill flare. It’s a ton of fun and great practice to up the skills for spooky reds, bonefish and permit on the fly.
