Cortland Braid Review

The discussion on the FG knot reminded me that I wanted to post my experience with Cartland Braid. I bought a few 300 yard spools on the clearance store. I put them on some St Croix Mojo rods and let my brother borrow them. He complained that it kept breaking. I finally had a chance to cast those rods and I will say it did break when casting really hard but it was breaking because it is wrapping around the first guide when you cast really hard. Never had another issue after that. I think it is because the braid is noticeably softer than PowerPro or something similar.

Never used their braid. Backing and Fly line, though I’ve used quite a bit.

The more strands the more supple and easier it will wrap around your rod tip especially if you are casting and retrieving facing the wind. I think the Cortland is 10 strand.

I used power pro for years but switched to cortland masterbraid about 4 years ago. I really like it and use the bronze color. Mostly fish the 10lb and tie and alberto knot to 12lb - 16lb fluro. It is a 4 carrier until the larger weights but I have not used anything other than the 10lb and 15lb. I use the diawa j-braid 8 carrier for my casting reels and the j-braid metered line for my slowpitch jigging reels.

Sufix 832 and Diawa J Braid 8 are my favorite

I’m pretty sure this was 10lb and it fished pretty nice after I figured out what happened.

I fish 8lb PowerPro on 4 other rods and it’s been fine.

I have been using the bronze color in 10 and 15lb as well and really like it. I have been using it for 2 or 3 years without any noticeable issue.
