These things are seriously legit, using with a small diameter bungee off Amazon.
I’ve need those a few times
I’ve needed those MANY times because the cleats are all ripped out or never existed on some of the docks in many places I’ve launched.
Never ceases to amaze me what type of boat handling skills it takes to rip a welded aluminum or stainless boat cleat right off the dock.
I’ve seen a similar set-up before @Kingfisher Thanks for sharing the tip!
I would not use them for docking, but they would work great for holding down a tent on a Chickee in the Everglades.
Well how bout that. I can definitely see the possibilities for them. Don’t think I’d be using em as an overnight tight off, but certainly useful while going to get the truck/trailer.
Thanks for sharing this. I definitely have come across some areas especially on LI where they would be useful for short time tie ups. Great idea!
That was my thought as well. The web site suggests that users need a “pencil width” gap between the floor boards to use them.
I know it works at Lorelei, Grasy Key Marina, Angler house (Islamorada) and Pennecamp docks (not the concrete ones, lol). These might look flimsy but for docking while grabbing trailer or a few drinks with lunch it works great. No way I would use it overnight or on a Chickee unless just using the porta potty. With a quality bungee cord it stays really snug. Honestly, I would have never thought this thing would be this nice and work as well as it does. Super wife friendly
When I ran a bass boat I had rails on the gunwales just ahead of the seats, and I carried a couple of different length rubber bungee cords to hook to the rail and a cleat on the dock. For docks without cleats I bent a 1/4" steel rod into a vee shape, then bent an offset on both ends. I could slip it between the dock planks (as long as they ran parallel to the boat rather than perpendicular) and hook the bungee in the vee under tension. Worked quite well. The more tension on the vee, the better it held. I ended up making some for several friends.
I don’t have a rail on the skiff, but I have 1/2" Phender Pro sockets where the rails were on the Stratos, and one centered at the rear of the front deck. My fenders are prerigged on the Phender Pro pins to the proper length and the permanently attached dock lines are 3/8" marine bungee cord. Easy peasy…
