Camping in the ENP

The ENP offers wonderful camping opportunities in both the “frontcountry” and the “wilderness” or “backcountry” areas.

The Flamingo campground is one of two drive-in campgrounds accessible from the Homestead entrance of the park. It offers solar-heated showers, two dump stations, picnic tables, grills, and an amphitheater for seasonal Ranger programs.

The Long Pine Key campground is open seasonally November-May. It is one of two frontcountry camping options run by the “Flamingo Adventures’’ concession. Reservations are available for RV’s and tents along with first come first serve sites. If sites are booked, more camping may be available further down the Main Park Road in Flamingo.

There are a number of ground sites, beach sites, and elevated camping platforms (“chickees”) available in various locations in the park. Most wilderness camping sites are accessible by canoe, kayak, or motorboat, though a few may be reached by hikers.

A wilderness camping permit is required for all wilderness campsites and issued the day before or day of your trip either online or at the Flamingo Visitor Center. Preparation is extremely important for a successful trip. As of January 2, 2023, all Marjory Stoneman Douglas Wilderness campsites are only available for advanced reservations on Recreation.gov. Campsites are no longer held as “walk-up.” Campsites are open for reservations 90 days in advance. Rangers can still assist campers in booking an unreserved site on the day of their trip.
