I set one of my anchors out back behind a tree stump and with the chain fall and a few pvc pipe rollers cranked TOADFISH out of the shed.
She feels big outside. Beam is 8’ and shed at floor is 12’ wide so was like building a skiff in a hallway. Will build a cradle around her tomorrow for turning her over and cranking back into the shed.
Aside from that, I think it’s incredible. You found ways to build great boats in sheds in backyards and standardize that in such way that anyone can do it.
I’m jealous of the backyard. That looks like amazing country up there. I know you’re in BC, but I’m guessing you’re in Pacific Northwest. That’s some of my favorite country I’ve been to. Enjoy it
Chris this is outstanding! Congrats on the birth! I’m looking forward to the cradle being built.

“like building a skiff in a hallway”! ![]()
My friend Andy came by today at 3:00 and we lifted and set Toadfish upright. Was fun to see how she lifted as I set the lines according to the CG of the design. She lifted off perfectly. What a great little rig Andy has. Upright with interior build cross beams removed I am very pleased with the room she has for a 20’ skiff / mini trawler yacht. I now have to Jack her up to set my roller setup under her keel and crank her back into the shed. Doing this alone means lots of back and forth. But I like the quiet so no problem. Lots of stuff to interrupt me next month so let’s see what progress I can make.
Thanks for dropping this in here and being a part of the community Chris. I always appreciate your info/insight and how efficiently you work!
Toadfish getting cranked back into the work shed.
I put a plank under her keel. I used a simple Jack to lift her up to put pvc, and aluminum pipe rollers under keel. Then with a resin tin can for-stern corner support I cranked her back inside with the chain fall. When the rollers ran out at the bow I used the cedar round to hold the pry plank down while I slide the new rollers in position. Took an hour being alone. Now the fun part starts….interiors are always fun to plan out the little details and dream about cruising in her.
It is so great to see you put this boat together!
Bart
