Smith Warranty

Nice. Thanks for sharing. I’d definitely gave it a shot had I not destroyed the frames.

AI can produce some very realistic images nowadays….

I’ve heard of Smith having an excellent warranty but I have not tried to send mine back yet. I got a brand new pair before a trip and in the first week of owning them the rubber on the arms was peeling off. By the end of month one, the rubber peeled off so bad and the end was so sharp that they cut me putting them on my head. The lenses (I think plastic) also were completely scratched and wearing away in a few weeks. Not sure how they had a $200+ price tag because I think the calcutta frames at walmart are of better quality.

Now I will say the lenses were great while they lasted. The chromapop is really cool and gave me excellent visibility inshore fishing! I still have them and keep them in my boat bag just in case I forget my costas that I have owned now for 10+ years and have only replaced once for a broken frame. Recently a lense fell out of my costas while I was wiping them and fell on the sidewalk and cracked but it’s so minor I am still rocking them.

At this point I would like to try a different brand since Costa has since been sold to luxotica. I have heard excellent things about Mauis and Cordinas so I think that will be the route I take but if it was that simple for you to replace the Smiths I may as well give them another shot!

@Flyfishingod never hurts to try. The pair i warrantied was 8 years old, and the frames were still in great shape. But as I mentioned earlier, I only use them when I’m on the boat, not day to day.

I’m going to give it a try today! Would love to have them new again for boat use because I really did love the lenses! Just didn’t appreciate the arm stabbing my head

Side note. I got out for a little bit yesterday and was able to test drive these lenses. I got the Yellow/Blue Glass, photo/chromo pops. They highlight red shades unbelievably, so spotting redfish was wild. They almost glowed.
My previous lenses were no longer available so I gave these a whirl and glad I did, as Reds are my target sightfishing fish almost exclusively.

I just got the email that my warranty was approved. They want me to destroy these but they are still functioning shades without the rubber ear pieces. It also appears that my frames, the outlier 2, are no longer offered so I really don’t want to destroy them . What Ai app can make them look destroyed? lol

Edit: Just took a knife to the lense :smiling_face_with_tear:

@Flyfishingod it’s definitely hard to intentionally destroy them. My frames were good, and I had known about the lens availability I wouldn’t have destroyed them and just X-ed tge lenses.
