Severe gelcoat failure? Or something else?

You should take brandon up on that offer. I was going to offer to give it a look and write up a survey report if you were close to me.

As previously noted, the chips/damage appear to be impact related to me. And given your circumstances “as previously noted”, I’d lean towards the damage being forklift damage considering location and the fact the damage is almost mirrored side to side and in the same vicinity fore/aft. Debris damage such as picking up a crab pot will typically be random.

It’s a long shot, but I would go to where the boat is stored and see if there is any gelcoat debris around. I’m sure they cleaned and covered their tracks, but you never know. Does look consistent with a forklift but with no proof I doubt they take responsibility. Port chine looks like it was impacted also. Starboard chine looks like air void, but hard to determine with just a picture.Pathfinder should warranty those if the boat is a year old. Repair is pretty straightforward but you need to determine the fiberglass was not damaged in the two areas on the step. First post on the new site, I was on the old site almost since it began. Not a huge poster but will contribute here and there. Good job with the new site.

I’m no expert but I agree with others and I’m thinking that the edges around the step and other areas are taking most of the weight from lifting with the forklift. Most of the hull weight is being supported by a very small area.

Welcome @Mingo_gringo
Glad to see you here!

@greentide what was the outcome on this?

Great to have you aboard, @Mingo_gringo !

check your storage agreement…they may not be liable for bunk storage damage ? I don’t know your specific location, but, if it is forklift / bunk damage, you will need to prove it…

Measure the width of the forks. Not sure if they move or if they’re fixed

My dealer came out to check it out, just in case it was a warranty issue, who immediately went to fork damage. They have been very good on two other warranty issue in the past - sort of no questions asked.

Marina ended up agreeing it was likely the forks one the steps and just said they will take care of the chines too. In reality, the chains could have been air and I never saw them before. Its supposed to get repaired today. The marina did right. Hope the job comes out clean…fortunately its just a white bottom and not an exotic color. The gelcoat guy is well regarded and works on the fancy painted boats with 5 screws (you probably know them). Appreciate your help on this my friend.

Thanks and welcome! Yah, I had the dealer confirm no glass damage. Purely gelcoat. So got lucky there. I was nervous I might have gotten the core wet, but they said its 100% surface.
