Exactly why I started leaving the sleeves on when we are on the water.
Ive been using them on my fly rods for a long time now. Picked it up from my bass tournament buddies. I tow over 70 miles one way and I think it helps keep the blank from getting rubbed. In my eyes it is very cheap insurance for very expensive rods. I adjust the length so they stop just above the second stripper guide where I usually place my fly on the guide frame. It is a MF if you get a hook in one from the inside when on the rod. Also helps as mentioned above when doubling up.
They bounce a lot more in the rod holders when the boat is running across the bay than they will trailering down the highway.
I used the Amazon material mentioned. For the tip end, I gathered the material and secured with a small zip tie with about 1/2 inch of material sticking out. You can then melt the 1/2 inch of material together with a torch for a finished tip. You can then remove zip tie if wanted.
I use the shock cord on the under gunnel rod racks front and rear to hold the rods tight. Reels have covers on them for long boat runs or over the road to/from the ramp. I have SeaDek reel pads by the rod holders that keeps the reels from banging on the liner although they don’t move around too much.
Ordered. Man, thanks for the link!
@MaverickMA if you wrap the leader aroud the rod a few times and slip over an eye it will eliminate that Flip has a video on it that is how I do it when storing multiple rods
Great call @JimmySmith , but I actually splurged on the $15 amazon sleeves and LOVE them. Man, what a game changer for my rod locker. I can now get 4 fly rods in there without scratching and tangling them!
