So I just received my 1076-1. It came in a black rod tube with a sock packaged in a cardboard tube. The rod seems pretty light, a bit softer in the tip than I anticipated. I’ll be fishing it Thursday, provided my oral surgery goes well tomorrow
. I’ll let ya know how it performs. Just to get a head of any questions, I’ll use a 260g (30’) with 305 head weight at 51’. It’s an Airflo Superflo Flats Tactical WF 9wt.
Awesome, I fished my 9’ 9WT yesterday and loved it. Got a 7’6” 8WT on the way.
Did you buy direct from Maven?
Yes, that’s the only option, right? Also, ordered. 9’ 7WT. Rods are in production as I wanted Natural finish and they were out of stock.
Drew has some in stock I think. Reach out and ask what he has if you need. DHL, terrible but I guess it’s the only choice.
Enjoy the rods!
I have over 20 hrs casting just my short rods. There’s nothing I can do with my 9’ers that I can’t do with the shorter rods in fact there are some things they do just as good if not better with less effort than the 9s. The most benefit realized from the shorts is ease of casting. Not that 9’s aren’t easy but if I spend two 5-6 hr days painting mangroves with 9s, my shoulder feels it. I’m no expert but I have pretty good form/technique so I can attest to the fact that these shorter rods are easier on the joints, very impressive. If you’re experiencing issues with elbows or shoulders, try a short rod.
I definitely prefer my shorter rods over the 9’ stuff. Agree on all counts.
I’ve been using 9s since the late 80s. They have there place I’m sure but like I said, I can do everything with the shorter rods I can with the 9s. From roll casting, accuracy, inverting loops etc.. I can do this all day with no joint fatigue or discomfort. The shorts take less effort to achieve the same result, just easier. The definite advantage the nines would have over the shorter rods is when Wade fishing or standing on a beach when you need a higher back cast perhaps. Other than that, the 7 1/2 foot rods are pretty impressive for what I do. JMHO
I need that recipe…intrigued.
I’ll call ya tomorrow
?? Are all of the the Maven rods built with single foot guides? Or is it certain model/length specefic?
@990-4
I believe the Spey/double handed and Bluewater rods are traditional snakes. I do believe you can order a rod built to your specs.
Thanks- i just received a Stickman Ti8 8’6” from Akos last week after a 1.5 month build/ship. I asked him to build it exactly how he would build his own rod-it’s my first go with single foots. Limited time with rod so far- but I think the singles can add to the feel and responsiveness of the rod taper- it must be EU thing - don’t see them on USA built sticks.
I’ve built many rods with single foot guides. Never a problem with them in fact having 1/2 the wraps/finish keeps the blank more true. IMHO Good choice
Can’t wait for the detailed review!
@JLewis
If your 4 piece is as good as my 1 piece (which I’m sure it is), you’re going to LOVE it!
