Fly Fish Oman

Mostly smooth rocks. Few shells. No fossils. All bones were fresh dead, like the last year or two.

Apparently the winter there is monsoon season and they get 30-50’ seas and high winds that push sea mammals onto the rocks and cause the birds to crash.

Awesome!! The whale bone pic is crazy. I want a chair like that in the den, would be a great conversation piece.

I did that trip pre covid. Was a great trip for the price but land based then. Guides are conventional anglers not fky fisherman. There were 8 of us and we caught 29 species over 6 days fishing. I got a small GT about 12lbs, it was the first anyone caught on fly with them. Couple guys got permit, but we only went to that beach for a couple hrs. I posted uo some pics on the old site.

They have fly guides now. Our trip was the first with guides with real fly knowledge.

Sounds like an awesome trip!

I’m very curious what could have happened on your flight to cause it to be so long? Was there some issue landing in Doha? I’ve done that flight a few times and it’s never been over 14hours.

Just looked back.

flight to Doha was 14 hours in the air with an 11 hour layover and a 4 hour flight to Salalah, and then customs.

Flight home was 4 hour flight to Doha with a 13 hour layover, and a 16 hour return flight plus customs. Plus I drove from Crystal River to Miami Intl. I had the flu on the way home with a 104 fever.

I guess it felt longer in the air given the circumstances.
