What's everyone been catching on fly?

Is that second fish just an odd looking redfish?

Didn’t notice before, but yes, strange looking. Almost like a Red/Black hybrid.

To me it kinda resembles a really big whiting.

@Smackdaddy53 o caught one several years that had me thinking the same thing. It looked like a Red/Black cross.

It’s actually a freshwater drum, they get mixed in with the redfish and black drum in the fall in some of the brackish areas in the marsh

Interesting. I call those gaspergou, we catch them on earthworm when we’re catfishing in the river.

Not a lot of pics, but finally had a chance to get out and fly fish this am thanks to the time change.

Woke up barely able to get dressed thanks to a recent back injury. Fought through how to get my socks on with severely limited mobility and wondered if it was worth it.

Sunrise made it clear that it was worth the effort and pain.

Headed to a spot with a buddy in the hopes that the trout would be willing to eat flies and that my fly fishing elbow situation would finally allow me to cast my 7 wt. It occurred to me that, between my right elbow not working, my back not bending, and my right shoulder all hung up that I am just fricken falling apart. Then I thought about the steering issues, bad trim tab actuator, and recent issue with my trolling motor and realized my boat was falling apart too. I guess we are both in this together. Been a hell of a few months! Fixing her up this month so maybe it will fix me too.

Anywho, the morning was windless and after a few trout on spinning gear, I switched to the flyrod and was not disappointed. The arm worked great, my casts were money, and the trout were hungry. I will remind you florida boys that up here in NC, trout are actually cool and highly revered. Yes, its weird, but there you have it. I was catching cool, highly revered fish on the flyrod, one after the other.

Life was good until my buddy got antsy and wanted to find different fish to do the exact same thing with, a condition I often suffer from as well. We spent the rest of the morning looking for fish, but aside from one other random trout, came up empty.

It was hard to complain, one of those chilly fall “trouty” mornings where the warming sun, and the rhythm of a great cast made up for the lack of fish.

Sounds like me, except I don’t usually find fish willing to come out and play.
Glad you were able to find some fish and get some saltwater therapy!

Hah - yeah, man, they don’t always want to come out and play with me either, but I think they were feeling sympathetic!

Beautiful pictures :+1::+1:. Thank you for sharing this with us!
“The rhythm of a great cast”:+1::+1: I like it

Haven’t done much fly fishing lately. Me and my buddy got on a nice school of reds yesterday. After catching a handful on spinning gear, I figured it was time to catch one the easy way

Great pics Maverick MA!! I go to an Osteopathic Doctor for my back when needed. A major step up from a chiro. Also I do a stretch where I lay on my back on the floor or pad and bring knee up toward chin each leg separate and then together with a rock side to side. Then sit cross legged or as best you can with arms behind head and reach elbows towards opposite knee and hold. Been doing these stretches for 52 years when my back first went out so bad took me 45 minutes to get out of bed every day, a bunk bed I pulled myself up with… Depends on what your back issue is of course.

You know what they say about “leaving fish to find others.”

Little cast and blast today:

First time to north ga, work trip… stockers on private water, had a ball! Tons of fish but could tell they had a lot of pressure, ended up with 5 in about 2.5hrs on the soque! Will definitely go back and try for some diy. We had a large work group so I would have been more productive without as much commotion in the river.
