I have the Bak Revolver x4s and it’s been good for the 3 years I’ve had the truck even if it’s a bit pricey. My brother has the same make but in a folding model. I believe the hard roll up version is much more convenient, especially when you need to uncover the whole bed since with the roll up, you can see over it when it’s fully retracted and to me it’s more secure when traveling in that position vs the flip up.
I’ve used a Ford F-150 AlloyCover from WeatherTech for 3 years now and it has held up well so far. A little pricey but constructed well and Made in the USA.
The only thing I would do differently (and will do soon) is install some of the pink 1/2” or 5/8” or even 3/4” thick semi-hard foam insulation panels, cut-to-fit, from Home Depot, on the underside of the hard tonneau cover because it gets blazing hot in the Summer. You could fry eggs on it and the bed-space under the tonneau cover gets hot too!
That one looks good! How’s the seal, to keep water out? Mine is sealed good but a little water can still get in.
I think the only ones that don’t leak at all are the type that completely overlap the sides of the truck bed - but they don’t have that cool low-profile or flush look.
Seems to be dry but we also keep the truck under the house. The top has a rubber edge that matches up to the top side tracks. Side track is snug to the bed. So far so good.
I have a hard plastic one piece bed cover on my f-150. Generally like it but it does stink for stuff that gets all the way up by the cab and you need to access that stuff from the tailgate a lot of time cause it’s just a weird angle getting stuff from the tire forward toward the cab.
It’s not 100 percent water proof but is pretty good. If it’s going to leak it will be in the cab corners where I already have drain holes in my bed. The sides and rear tailgate portion do not leak at all cause the design covers the bed rails and the tailgate. This also helps a little in protecting your stuff and tailgate from theft.
It’s quick to remove and install like less than 5 minutes but is best done by two people since it’s more awkward than heavy.
The Extang Solid Fold that sits on top of the rails is the best I have had. I have one on my 2016 and it still barely leaks. For my new truck, I went cheaper and got the Rough Country with the rails and I hate it. Leaks like crazy and now there is a big void/bubble in one of the sections. Trying to get it covered under warranty.
The GARMAN SHOP …had these on display…super nice, but, just out of what I wanted to spend right now given some other expenses for my photography and consulting businesses.
Destination flies(and others): The inability to reach for things in the front of the bed can be easily solved. A former neighbor had a device made from a golf club driver. The head had been removed, and a 90 degree hook installed. It rode in the bed, and was always there to grab things. He called it the “Reach’n’Get”. I made one for my truck, as it has a bed topper, and I’m short. Very useful. And it’s the best use for a golf club I’ve ever seen. TJ
I like the “Reach’n’Get” idea, and have used something similar.
I also installed a Cargo Stabilizer Bar in the 6.5’ truck bed at about the backend of the wheel wells. That way, stuff that’s not needed as often is placed forward of the bar and things (tools and supplies) I use often are placed aft of the bar within reach when opening the tailgate.
