Thread On Recommended Marine Mechanics/Welders/Fiberglass Repair

Given the amount of knowledge on this forum, maybe a thread on local / regional Marine Service Professionals ?

Betts Fishing Center in Largo, FL for trolling motor repair.

@Jonny and @JCDesigns for Charlotte Harbor and the nature coast areas.

the one time I used The Skiff Shop they did a great job and I had a great experience

Any outboard repair that’s beyond my comfort level Trails Yamaha in Henderson La. Great folks, they do mobile repair as well.

Sterling Marine in New Iberia La does fabrication, I just had them raise my platform, work was great and price was reasonable while there I looked at a lot of other aluminum work they were doing/had done and was impressed

Sterling also does Upholstry however I just had my Upholstry done by an old one legged man at a tiny shop behind his house way out in the boonies northwest of Lafayette and the work was well done, very reasonable and he turned it around in a day

Wiring for trolling motor - I’m doing it

Wiring and installing trim tabs - me again

Wiring new bilge pump - this guy

Installing GPS and transducer - moi

mounting and rigging new outboard - same guy as the 4 above

Any trailer repair not requiring welding (lights, hubs, bearings, axle replacement, fender replacement adjustment, changing bunks) - yep that same fat guy

Rewiring the whole damn skiff…yeah just did that too

Tip of the cap, @Redchaser I like to do routine maintenance and repairs myself as well–within reason. There are some things that go beyond my comfort level and for those I’d rather have pros do the work so I can get back on the water as soon as possible. That’s where this list of regional service providers will come in handy.

Agreed, in terms of mechanical work on the outboard, I was more comfortable with and willing to tackle a lot more on my old carbureted 2 stroke, simple machine that wasn’t hard to work on. The new 4 stroke not so much other than “maintenance” and scheduled service type stuff that’s simple.

It’s a bit of a necessity for me to handle a lot of stuff. When I’m in my busy season I’m staying at the camp down the bayou for weeks on end and there’s limited access to repair places/or even parts. Most of it I learn as I go, University of Youtube is helpful, I just make sure that I get the same consistent info from several reputable sources to avoid following bad advice. I also have a copy of the full Yamaha service manual for my engine.
