Suzuki 60 cavitation plate

I have a 60 suzuki and have my motor bolted high on my transom. Before it was mounted 2 holes lower. I had a v spray. 2 rooster tails. Reason for raising it all the way. Once I raised it, the spray significantly went away but not totally. I realized the spray was coming from the place water hits the lower unit. After looking at other brand outboards I noticed suzuki has a small cavitation plate above the normal plate. Other outboards are larger and some have 3 instead of 2. Im in the process of making a larger plate out of carbon to fix the issue. Any input is welcome. I’ll post pics and update everyone once I make/ test it.

Welcome @Jsanchez1024! Pictures will definitely help, What kind of boat is that Zuke hanging off of?

Welcome aboard @Jsanchez1024 Happy you joined us. Moved your thread to the appropriate forum for better responses.

You probably need to raise it even more.

Mercury vs suzuki big difference. While running the boat i can see the purpose of this upper plate.

I can’t tell how high your outboard is mounted from those photos. I can tell you if water is coming over the bottom plate your outboard is way too low which is the case on a majority of skiffs these builders sell. They are scared to death to raise an outboard to a reasonable height from the start. You probably haven’t done the water pressure valve flip mod or sealed the third water intake which are both the very first things I change when a DF60 comes through my shop. Both improve water pressure and help with overheating.

What’s a good starting spot for engine height on a non-tunnel boat? What do you look for when deciding to move up, down, or leave it where it’s at?

Raise it until you lose water pressure then drop it one hole. You really need to do the modifications I mentioned first.

My eastcape evox17 runs great at this height. Without a jackplate. The point of this post was to compare the secondary plate above the cavitation plate. Reason why im fabricating a carbon plate to eliminate any minor spray. I know set back would help and a jackplate like mack suggests will stop the spray. Thats not the point of this post. Its mainly to show how small suzuki under engineered this plate.

Would love to show a video just haven’t tried how to figure it out enough

I thought you were asking for input. All good.

Mack yes on input. But also to help someone else who is going through the same. Jackplate is great but do i really need it? For me its no. Maybe when hmp is out again

I’m always going to tell you a JP is necessary, just too many benefits.

Update i lowered my motor all the way down and spray is gone. Similar or better performance.
