Wanted to get out with the fly rods with my friend Chris who’s a fishing guide in Utah and comes down for the winter…
He’s amazing when it comes to hitting specific spots…
I wanted to take him to the back, and way back, to find some Juvi Tarpon, snook, trout, and reds…
Well, we got 3 out of 4…
We arrived to our double secret location…only Loogie knows (LOL)…he saw us, and first cast we jumped a tarpon…2nd cast, we landed one…third cast, a lil snook…
At that point, I said, let’s go home…
We continued to work the shore line and hit a few more snook. We moved about 150 yards and no love…
We decided to head back to the original tarpon spot and on the way, there was a jack attack on some small baits…one cast, and game on for Chris…
We continued to where we got the first tarpon and I saw one roll in the mangroves…I told Chris, let me get the boat in position with the PP Move…we got within about 60 feet and he nailed the cast into an area of about the size of a garbage can lid…swoosh…a strike and miss.
Chris went back within a second or two and game on…2nd Tarpon to the boat.
Afterwards we went to look for some reds in some mud areas…but, nobody home.
We were heading back and I decided to stop at a place I had fished many years ago with Capt Don H. A small cove with water moving…the tide was a very slow and long outgoing…but, the wind was blowing the tide…
I hit a couple of snook dinks and then a few ladies…
Chris said, let me get in on the game and went to the stern and was casting along side of me…
2nd cast, trout on…then another, then another…
He remarked they looked like the brown trout he catches up in Utah…I hadn’t seen them this golden in a while…
We headed back to look for some reds up along the Wilderness Water ways…but, no love..
By 2pm, Chris’s arm was sore from hours of casting…and we made our way home…two or three more spots for me casting some DOA’s and Bob LeMay jigs and no love…
We stopped at one final spot and I decided to grab the buggy whip…and yes, 2nd cast…first snook on the fly in 12 years…on a Capt Don shrimp…
Another couple of casts and again, another…Chris was on the stern and casting and hooked up 3 or four as well…they were stacked up on an oyster bar…
Over all day mission accomplished…
A few pics from the day…Enjoy…the tarpon were gently released and properly handled…no trout went home…and the dink snooks lived to grow into big girls…
some pics…my photography skills were kind of lacking…but, they came out “OK”.
Gotta shoot more ![]()
First Tarpon of the day…
A few trout pics…
One of many dinks Chris caught…
The jack attack…lots of fun…
