SkiffHQ.com Shoves Away From the Dock

A pressure wave is pulsing from the Monomoy Flats to the Carolina and Georgia tidal creeks, across the Sunshine State and the Gulf through the Louisiana marsh to the crystalline expanses of the Lower Laguna Madre. Light tackle and fly fishing pursuits for saltwater gamefish is hotter than a casting platform in August. To reach the shallow depths where these trophies roam requires specialty niche craft like technical poling skiffs, flats boats, hybrids and kayaks. SkiffHQ.com, a member-owned, ad-free web site dedicated to the fishing skiff community, is now live to serve as the ultimate headquarters for this ardent segment of sport-fishing.

The main focus of the site is the forum. This is where members will meet to discuss a variety of special interest topics. The sections include Bragging & Project Chronicles for new owners or those grabbing the Sawzall to cut out an ancient rotten transom. Microskiffs will cover skiffs with outboards 70 horsepower or less while Macroskiffs is for those a little less tippy with more ponies. The Maintenance and DIY sections are the places to go for advice on trouble-shooting wiring gremlins, gelcoat vs. epoxy conundrums, or what lithium battery to install and how to safely charge it.

Other popular landing spots will be the Regional and Guide fishing reports, Classified ads for skiffs, fly reels and most everything else piscatorial. Dock Box will highlight water quality and other environmental issues, Tournaments and Special Events and Travel Agent for recommendations on where to stay and what guide to book when away from home waters.

“SkiffHQ isn’t just a forum — it’s a gathering place,” says site founder and battle-scarred angler Capt. Jan Lemieux. “From seasoned guides to backyard builders, this is where people come to swap ideas, post their rigs, and troubleshoot the unique challenges of shallow-water boating. What sets us apart is what we leave out: no ads, no tracking, no clutter. Just clean conversation, helpful advice, and a space built by and for the community — not by algorithms or ad networks.

“On SkiffHQ.com, you’ll discover build logs, technical Q&A, launch-day photos, and input from real boaters. Whether you’re deep into your fifth skiff or dreaming up your first, SkiffHQ is where the conversation starts,” Lemieux adds.

“If you’re a shallow-water fanatic, this site will be your digital watering hole, dockside pavilion or fishing club gathering,” says Capt. Dave Lear, a retired Florida guide and award-winning outdoor writer. “You’ll read real-world advice from veteran boaters and anglers, share adventures, swap fly patterns or get opinions on a variety of topics from leader material and marine electronics to the merits of boating safety checks. But the common denominator is always a community that loves to pursue elusive game fish in super skinny water.”

“The popularity of technical poling skiffs and ultra minimalist Texas skiffs has greatly increased in the last 20 years,” says Capt. Mac Jank, a guide in South Texas and owner of Zephyr Cove Customs, a skiff rigging business specializing in shallow water performance and installing his patented water pickup system. “Now there are more builder options, lighter materials and advancements in construction methods. The advantages of running shallow and clean to access remote areas before shutting down and poling silently to cast to spotted fish can’t be denied. The passion we have for this growing community is second to none. I’d like to welcome fellow enthusiasts to SkiffHQ.com to share our common interests and help grow the sport responsibly.”

The site will continue to evolve with the changing tides. Future additions will include the option to donate to offset site hosting costs, a merchandise store and other features.
