Let me preface this with, I love music. Literally everything from Blues to Metal, and anything in between spanning many generations, just not on the water. Fishing for me is my escape to nature. Sight fishing relies on much more, imo, than eyeballs. There’s noises that occur, from bait busting, to dolphins to turtles, and more. All of that provides small glimpses as to what’s occurring below the surface. So with that being said, I’m parked in the grass on top of an oyster bar, waiting on some big uglies to come around, when this dude pulls up on his Carolina skiff, Bimini top open shirt off and radio blasting. Where he was, had zero effect on my fishing, but his radio was certainly loud and clear. I also understand his style of fishing( soaking bait on multiple rods, while sitting in a chair drinking refreshments) may be conducive to enjoying music, but mine not so much. Cause now I’m over here trying to pay attention to my surroundings, but instead find myself singing along to tunes from the 90s.. Dammit man.. I cant be mad, cause his playlist was fantastic.. But it made me realize how the experience changes. Rant over, perspective provided. Carry on.
I was always against tunes on the skiff, until I got my first turtlebox like 5 years ago. Then, I became a fan. But only while running or idling. Not while fishing.
You do you boo! I also rarely listen to music unless I’m soaking bait with the kids like the dude in the Carolina skiff. Don’t hate me too😜
My favorite part is you caught yourself singing along, lol. It had to be a good play list. I’m in the same mindset I don’t have speakers, or take them on the boat. Maybe if I ever get a turtle box like @paintitblack I’d do the same and jam on the way out or back in. But fishing is too damn serious for tunes blaring.
I don’t want to hear anything but nature. Not a phone, not someone jabbering non stop and definitely not music. Too bad sound carries so far on the water. Even my ten year old son will ask “dad, is that guy ever going to stop talking” or “Man, I wish they would turn that music off and fish”.
I’m all about sharing the water but raping my ear holes with your play list isn’t being considerate of others any more than pulling up on someone who’s fishing and asking catching anything?!?
I’ll play music while fishing sometimes but on the lowest setting where its just audible enough to hear. I need to hear what’s going on around me.
I’m all about the “you-do-you” thing until the “you” thing invades my “me” thing. Music is fine when you do it for “you” but when you do it for you and everyone in a 100 mile radius, we’re going to have words. I get it when running - a passing annoyance for those who don’t like your music. But you pull up to a spot and blast your music and I’ll probably do “me” in a way that is equally invasive.
Rant over.
Only times I use my skiff tunes is sometimes 1. on the run back in, 2. there’s a long no wake at the ramp I use so music and a beer at the end of the day is good to unwind after a hot day and last 3. if I’m with family soaking bait or sandbarring but I’m never blasting it.
This is me when I hear an airboat tearing a back lake up for more than a minute or two and when I hear someone less than a mile away playing boat music…

1000%
And not a mother ****ing airboat either.
We had a west wind this week and one shoreline was a perfect setup for the tide and fishing white sandy beach mixed with grass. I waited 3 hours for the sun to get just high enough to hit it. I set my line, got on pole and not 10 minutes later, over a mile away, an airboat starts burning the shoreline coming right towards me. They also went in between a boat and the shore that was anchored off - the guy was wading deep.
I would have poled that entire shoreline for probably 2 to 3 hours. But it was ruined by someone joyriding in an airboat. Then they proceeded to enter the back lakes and joy ride for an hour.
There should be regulations they cannot burn shorelines. That would be a start.
It’s infuriating!
Im sick of the lack of commen sense courtesy.
Yep. I love music but I want peace and quiet when I’m fishing and I should not have to listen to some a-hole’s choice of music from 3/4 of a mile away. Put in some F’ing ear-buds.![]()
Jeez, if it’s not music I’m usually subjected to some guy loudly carrying on an endless phone conversation. I guess some people have no idea how far sound carries across / through a marsh even when you can’t see anyone else.
@Smackdaddy53 Don’t even get me started on airboats. They do have a time and place, but that’s not out here on the flats and burning through the marsh. Nothing ruins a peaceful experience more than them noisy inconsiderate aholes that always seem to operate em.
@coconutgroves I have a similar story myself. Back in my yakk days, I put in one foggy dark morning, and started paddling. The spot I was heading to was probably a 3 mile paddle giver take. Im about a 1/2 mile away and I start hearing a airboat, and I’m thinking what hell, As There are zero boat ramps in this area and wtf is an airboat doing out here anyhow. Well sure enough as I’m getting closer to “my spot” this dkhead beats me to it and proceeds to spin circles in an effort to round up mullet, then they proceed to throw the cast net. After completely burning that spot, they head further back in the creek and continue to do the same for several hours.
Brother you’ve said a mouthful there. And it’s certainly lacking.
No jetskis
No airboats
No loud radios
No loud talkers
Fishing is to get out and hear the red wing blackbirds chatter, oysters clicking, redfish slurping, and wind whispering.
As soon as you muck that up, the relaxation goes right out the window.

Amen
Beat me to it..![]()
