Sharking (fish report)

We need some fishing reports… so here’s one.
My older son (13) has sharks on the brain. Turned down a trip flood tide fishing - but begged a shark trip.

Decided to make an afternoon chasing requiem sharks for him.
Cast net some big mullet and sent down some on my shark rigs.
I brought the 11 wt to try and catch one sight fishing but never made it happen.
He went 4 for 6.
Two three footers, a 4 footer, and a five footer. He was complaining his arms and back hurt.

I hoped it would scratch that itch, but all it has done is make it worse.

He is emphatic that he likes Spin cast and hates conventional gear.
Unfortunately, most of the bites wound up being on the conventional tackle.
After 5 sharks, the last (spinner shark) had straightened the big snap on the snap swivel, but the leader stayed on until release.

Quality time together for sure. Getting on the water with kids in whatever way it takes is more important. Good job dad!

Agree. At least he’s not on the phone or playing video games inside. Good job, Dad!

He would love it @DBStoots
He is all about sports and sharks. Girls are just starting to bubble into the mix (God help me)!

Good stuff!

Kids of all ages love pulling on sharks.

next time put a chum bag off the side and you should get your fly shots

I’ve been targeting them on fly down here in Tampa too.

Lots of fun! They eat flies well, pull hard, and when you’re done with them you can pop the hook or break them off. Occasionally you get a spinner and it does backflips too. What’s not to like?

Just gave me an idea! Thanks👍

Hey I’m with Zika. Shark fishing sure beats being holed up in a bedroom playing on a phone.

I spent a lot of time as a young person throwing plugs at sharks in SoFla. Great sport.
