Hey all, I’m looking for your favorite way to tie-off to your push pole as a temporary anchor while helping an angler land a fish or hop down off of the platform for a minute and don’t want to drift. I do have provision on my poling platform for this. Is it a shortened dock line, paracord, type of nylon rope, etc…Thanks in advance.
Paracord, slipped Clove hitch.
When we had our skiff in FL our son was big into paracord. He was 10. He was wrapping steering wheels - he actually did a couple of friends from the FCFF in Jax until he got bored with it.
Anyway, I had him do a Monkey’s Fist over a foosball ball. Left about a 3’ leash and tied it to the top of the platform (as long as we could but short enough that if it spun off the platform it would not hang into the prop). You could take this and give it a quick flip and a spin around the pushpole and let friction do its thing. Boat isn’t going anywhere and it was a 3 second maneuver. Worked well for us….and I think it only cost me $30. Child labor aint cheap!
Also do a Clove hitch, had a monkey fist. Clove is quicker
Post a pic? Thanks
1/4” double braid nylon- slipped clove
Paracord with a loop that I pass through the middle of the fork and around the legs.
See this recent post.
Marine bungee cord is the best I’ve found.
The “stretch” is much better than cords or rope.
Length is just short of getting in your prop.
Put a loop on the end.
Use it at the dock or staked out.
Clove hitch with bight around pole holds well.
Or use the loop through the fork and over one tip.
Sold that boat 8+ years ago when we left FL. I’ll poke around and see if we have any pics. Thanks!
piece of 1/4” rope with a large loop tied in the end. The loop hangs on my push-pole holder. Its big enough to toss over a piling at the dock, and just short enough to not get caught in my motor. I loop it through the foot of the pole when I need to stake out.
I had the guy that did my anchor line make me a tie off…same recipe, Dyneema with a built in dinghy snubber. Strip & Feed make excellent ones as well. If you do a loop you can just pass it through (in most conditions). I can give you my contact if you’d like one made.
That’s it!
This is the method I use. Although I have some cheap rope. This stuff looks fancy…
