Proud Dad Moment

Daughter was off from school today and I took off to watch her. Asked her if she would like to fish and she said yes.

Home lake is 3-4 feet down for maintenance so we went to the Occoquan. I figured we would try for crappie despite the bad conditions, windy and cool.

Daughter caught her first fish where she did everything. She casted, retrieved the lure, set the hook, and reeled the fish in. She followed this by a slab of a crappie that broke off at the boat when I tried to land it. I caught nothing but I couldn’t be happier. Proud Dad!

@HeaveToo - that’s a heck of a story. Those memories burn deep in young children, and especially for girls when those memories are with their father. Not too long from now (trust me, sooner than you want), you will start to see reflections of these moments in the choices she makes when boys start showing up. A dad that is involved, has her best interest at heart, shows her the beautify of the big wide world, and makes time for her tells her what to look for.

Great memory! Looking forward to delivery of my skiff and (attempting) to get my daughter into fly fishing. Worst case she’ll want to hangout and be my scout on the poling platform haha.

So I have change gears to extend my season. Probably the only flats boat you will see crappie fishing but they will bite until the water freezes over. The crappie my daughter lost was a slab, over 12” inches but not quite a citation.

I plan to try some more trips since it is close and convenient.

The wind made it hell to feel the tiny 1/8 oz baits. It was hard to stay in the zone too.

That’s awesome!! I’ve gotten so many memories with mine that I cherish dearly. Many of them involve me being the net man..lol..
As @Nibonthefly said, I’m now trying to get mine intrested in the fly as well. When I mentioned there were a lot of IGFA vacant records she could she set, she perked right up.
And dammit @MaverickMA you almost made my eyes leak with that reply.

No doubt. Mine just turned 12 on Monday, and beginning to look like a little lady. I’m not looking forward to the day she brings some little knuckle head home.
