Finally got my Power Pole Move installed (Bobby Reichert, Inshore Marine Specialties did a great job with the installation) and was able to test it out yesterday in real life (or should I say “reel life”) conditions. I was blown away by the performance–truly silent, even at higher speeds. The “step and stow” pedal will take some getting used to, and I found later that we were not really doing this correctly, but I’m sure I’ll come to like it. The wireless remote (rechargeable, comes with two) is intuitive, easy to use. There is a built-in information display on the motor that I’ll learn more about. I found the GPS anchoring feature to be amazingly precise. The TechFlow Propeller was very quiet and when helping my fishing partner retrieve a lure from the mangroves, we were amazed to discover the “reverse” feature–the prop actually turns in reverse instead of turning the head around to back out of the mangroves like I had to do with the Minn Kota. I’ll be learning more about the compass heading, vector mode and “follow-a-route” features in the weeks to come, but at this point I’m very pleased with the product.
Ok now I’m sold! This is a great function that I’m surprised isn’t a common feature on remote control trolling motors for a while now. How frustrating is it to wait for the bloody motor head to spin around?!!
Ok, I didn’t think I wanted one until I read this. Time to go sell some older gear to pay for it….. ![]()
Good update DB - thanks for sharing.
None of my anglers throw lures in the mangroves (LOL) ![]()
Yes, the reverse is amazing, I use it exactly as discribed for lure grabbing…
But, I have two Powerpole’s that I can control on the same remote…you ease into a mangrove, hit the brakes with the PP’s, then, just hit the button and you are backing out, lift up the PP’s and you come straight back…
Great feature.
I’ve been back in Chokoloskee creeping along sight fishing and the fish don’t blow out until you are literally on them the PPMove is so quiet.
DC
The reverse feature comes in handy when I fish for monkeys in the mangroves…. Just an FYI, make sure you insert the collar correctly when the motor is deplyed….I wasn’t aware there were “teeth” in the collar the first time and the darn thing started spinning faster than the girls at the Spearmint Rhino. ![]()
Reverse is a game changer…and I guess I need to be filled in on the Spearmint Rhino girls.
Still very torn about the move or the recon. Have about a month before I need to make a decision. Thanks for taking the time to point out a lesser mentioned feature ![]()
Have one on my Evo. I did spend about 30 minutes yesterday updating it. It quit about a week ago while displaying an error code. Pretty easy to figure that out. Really like it for all the reasons stated above.
Never been to Vegas I see…..![]()
Looks great in black! I went Recon for my final choice, cost was a factor naturally.
@DBStoots just realized how come you chose not to guide mount it like that previous one? Is that not an option with the move?
Guide mount was an option for me.
Did not seem to be. Recommendation is for the motor to be mounted as close to the centerline of the skiff as possible
it is quiet enuff tarpon do not seem to pay attention nor any other fish if you keep it low and change slowly! winner! $$$$
What is the reasoning behind that? Seems like it would operate mounted like any other trolling motor. I have not installed one yet.
Stowing isn’t bad, but I resorted to using my hands to deploy rather than falling overboard trying to step on that one sided pedal.
CA Richardson had his latest HB Pro built with his MOVE on the port side so he can step on it easier.
(Wish I had gotten black)
I’ve had the Move for over a year now. You need to install it on the Port side so the right side mounted pedal is easy to step on. It takes a LOT of force to deploy it. I still see shops installing it on the Starboard side. I suppose that is where the holes are from the old T-Motor so that’s where it has to go.
For my style of fishing the new “soft landing” Spot Lock on the Move is soooooooo nice. You are on the flat, easing along looking for that wary Redfish. You get hooked up, hit the Anchor button and it slowly and quietly eases you to a stop and holds you there. No backing up, no high rpm, just smooth and quiet. My Power Pole makes WAY more noise so I hardly use it.
best feature on the move !
its tunable.
Would be nice to see a shorter shaft that caters to light skiffs.
