Tuesday conditions were overcast, and a little rainy after a Tstorm delay I launched at 08:30 and snuck in the backcountry. My goal was to look at conditions and best places to target some reds, as I invited Stoots to come fish the sound with me on Wednesday. The tide was low at 10, so I was lucky enough to find a small backcountry small bay that had some reds loafing and eating mud minnows. I targeted them with an EP Everglades Special and they were hungry. I bagged a few solo, power pole was useful in stopping the boat while I got pulled around by these horses. There is absolutely nothing like watching your fly get eaten as your swimming it! I was able to complete a nice slam that morning, Snook, Tarpon and a few hoss reds, I did catch a couple Mangroves Snappers, maybe a Snapper slam?
Today, @DBStoots and I launched this am, made our way to a couple pinch points but no Tarpon playing, maybe the bottom of the outgoing had them in deeper. Today the tide was lower than yesterday, so I looked for some flats with 6-10 of water and grass. We worked hard, found plenty of reds, but Pine Island Reds are super spooky. Stoots accuracy with the spinning rod was stunning, did a great job and finally connected on a tailer we spotted! My turn, same deal lots of efforts, but finally came tight on a red feeding deep with its tail up, I dropped that fly 3” Of his nose and he gobbled that Everglades Special!
Tide eventually got too high to fish and we made our way back, no storms, beautiful sky!
The best part was spending the day with a great friend!
