No Classified posts yet

June 2, 2025. History is made. SkiffHQ.com has been live for 10 hours and there is still not ONE classified listing.

Obviously none of us have 50 posts/time on site yet so the posting rules are nil for now. And if we do eventually adopt an annual member donation mechanism or something similar, the consensus is that comes with the privilege of listing.

So go ahead, sell away. Just be cognizant of the categories so items can easily be found by potential buyers.

Admin is taking a well-deserved break after many man-hours staring at the computer screen. Hopefully he is having a barley pop or two or a nice glass of Rioja.

I don’t have trust-level-2.

The journey to enlightenment may be long…

Hey everyone, This forum uses a different process to give access to areas called Trust Levels. It helps to promote real engagement vs. just having to micromanage post count cowboys. By default I set the For Sale section to a Trust Level 2 when I set up the forum. This was a bit of a subjective, let me set something and then learn how it will work in practice. So we’re learning together.

My user account is a regular account like all of you. I’ll earn Trust Levels just like everyone else.

Give me your thoughts and feedback. This is YOUR forum. Do we open it up? Do we keep Trust Level requirement for For Sale? Please your feedback is what will steer the direction this site will go…

I don’t hate it, but are the required numbers manageable?
Ie: Reading a 100 posts.
That one seems a bit excessive.
I definitely don’t want this to be a Craigslist and I know you guys won’t allow it to become that, and I certainly won’t miss the newbs spamming old posts with one word replies to get their count up. So I feel you are definitely on the right track with this system.

@MikeCockman this is one of the many factors that lead me to choosing Discourse as the software for the forum.

It’s a work in progress. One thing we are looking at is a paid subscription will get instant TL2 access.

@iMacattack I would welcome a paid subscription, not because I have something to sell, but because I appreciate your work and I want to help defray your server and software costs. I’m OK if you pocket some change too!

I hear y’all loud and clear. Please give me a couple days to try to set up something that will allow for this. The site has been live for only about 24+hours. There are a lot of things happening in the background. Thanks! :slightly_smiling_face:

I stand corrected per the Discourse explanation from Admin.

I’m learning along with the rest of you.

As someone who had to deal with the post-and-ghosters previously I like the Discourse Level 2 with some slight tweaks. I also feel if someone pays a fee/subscription to help support the site, then that qualifies to list as well, even if they just want to quickly sell something and split. My .02.

I’ll support whatever you guys decide. Trust factor is a cool feature. I also don’t mind a minimum post requirement or a paid membership like “that other site”. I am generally untrusting of new members but all my sales experiences on the other site were great, but they were mostly from established members and I had enough confidence after doing my own “research” on the members. I think every forum should have a classifieds, but you guys set it up as tight as you like…

I have never had a bad transaction with any established members on Botsville.com. I sold and bought multiple items, including with @rovster

With newbies who pay a fee, Buyer Beware is always a good guide, but if using a service like PayPal there are recourses if things go south. That’s why I have avoided using Venmo personally.

I never use venmo or zelle unless I trust the person completely. I never understood some sellers aversion to transaction fees. Its a tiny percentage, shoot I usually offer to cover it if I really want the item but peace of mind and buyer protection goes a long way…

The Drake forum in its glory days had very few problems with its classified section. Those that were in the know would rather post on Craigslist.
Those that weren’t in the know were subsequently savaged by the general membership of the forum.

It was kind of fun. ……. In an adolescent bmx bike gang kind of way.
