I got a chuckle on how Dave, @loogie got his nickname on the “Member Street Cred”. I thought it might be interesting to hear how you guys, if any, got their nickname.
I’ll start with mine, Feefee. It was graciously awarded to me in 8th grade by the varsity track coach. He was to be my discus coach. After a couple of practices coach thought it was time to nickname me. Back then there was canned Chinese food called Feefee Lachoy Chinese food. Coach thought it fitting being my last name is Lijoi. That was 1974. My friends from HS still call me Feef for short.
People used to call me Smack because in 7-8th grade I always smacked this girl’s butt and she started calling me Smack Daddy. I guess she liked it. My first email address was smackdaddy53@yahoo.com and then the fishing forums popped up and that was the easiest handle to come up with. Some people still call me Smack but most call me other things I won’t mention.
Yes, my real name is Mac, not short for anything. It was my Grandfather’s first name, my Mother’s middle name and now my son’s middle name.
Many many years ago on a long forgotten fly fishing forum, members would post and share pictures of their catches through trip reports, but would rarely include pics showing their face. Posting a picture of your $hit eating grin while holding a fish was considered a “hero shot” and was frowned upon. Also, these were the earlier days of the internet, and social media then wasn’t what is is today. People wanted to keep their anonymity, but also wanted the focus squarely on the fish.
I was in my later college years and was still figuring out my fishery, fishing almost every weekend. On a calm cloudless January morning, a buddy and I pulled up to a big outer bank and noticed the water was green clear, not typical for this area (I’ve never seen the water like that 15 years later). Bulls were floating down this bank like rafts in a lazy river. I ended up catching my first bull that broke the 30lb mark and later that night in my excitement, posted a hero shot to that fly fishing forum to share it with the gang, not realizing the potential consequences. Someone posted a comment asking if if the person holding the fish was Justin Bieber…and it snowballed from there.
From that point forward and to this day, my fishing buddies call me Bieber.
Golfer and upland/water fowl hunter. Made an email with it ages ago and just stuck with it.
I’ve been King since my Jr. high football coach gave me that moniker. As in King Lear from Shakespeare.
My company name is Silver King Communications.
When I took delivery of my Beavertail Mosquito the Zika virus was in the news. The boat name & my screen name bit me.
Don’t really have any nicknames but in my younger years was called D or Big D. My wife calls me “Buba”, pronounced “Booba” short for Bubarini the pizza maker🤣
Been with her 31 years now yeah been messing with pizza a long time👍
I’ve been wondering where Zika came from:thinking:. ![]()
@TidewateR it sounds like you’re talking about the Drake message board. That was “the” fly fishing spot on the internet back in the day.
Pee Wee straight from birth my grandfather gave it to me I am 58 and my aunts and uncle on that side of the family still call me that to this day.
It was actually the Flyhonkey!
Flyhonky:joy:![]()
Mine wasn’t much of a stretch. Mike being the given turned into Mikee All through school.
(Mikee likes it)
Still have friends from them days refer to me that way.
@Smackdaddy53
Yours always takes a me back to guy I knew that everyone called “smackdaddy” back in NC. Like yours his given name was Mac, but he was known to sell a lil bit of substances that were unavailable for taxation. Along with talking “smack” in the bars. It was pretty fitting of him.
In 9th grade, one friend couldn’t remember how to pronounce my last name. He was trying to say it and kept flubbing it. Eventually he blurted out Monoman and it stuck. Some friends still call me by that name.
Stoots (my last name) is kind of unusual so most of my old friends–former teammates- all still call me “Stoots”. Funny that my kids’ friends all call them “Stoots” as well. BTW, Stoots is a palindrome. Give me a couple more…
boob
How’d they come up with boob?
HaHa! No, @DBStoots asked for another palindrome… ![]()
Jay is what most of my close friends call me. High school nickname was Mighty for how hard I hit the baseball.
Ben…I was in band in 7-12th grades, even in 7th grade I was about the biggest person in band. At the time, the show “Gentle Ben” was popular, about a family raising a black bear in the Everglades or something. Somehow I got tagged with Ben because of my size. My given name is William, shortened to Bill, then Ben to my bandmates and closer friends.
