New cutters/nippers

We have periodically provided feedback on differing options for line cutting, so I wanted to offer this one. I purchased them from my local White’s tackle in Vero. I usually carry a pair of nail clipper types in my pocket when fly fishing, but they don’t cut braid. These cut braid, come with a small “leash” for hanging them on a key chain or zipper, come with replacement cutters and the allen wrench, and are in the “goldilocks” price range of $24.

I like those, I had some from Amazon that couldn’t cut warm butter.

Have you used them yet? How long will they cut braid for?

Just got ‘em. I would think quality jaws would work for a while anyway. My $4 walmart kids scissors have cut braid for about 3 years now… lol.

I do my best to buy Made in USA or anywhere but China. It’s hard to do but definitely doable.

The package says that Dr. Slick is in the USA. :crossed_fingers:

Definitely keep us updated. I find nippers/nail cutters work best for mono/fluoro and scissors for braid. Although when the nippers are in decent shape they cut braid fine with a squeeze and tug. Never saw the allure of nippers until I starte using them! I wear a Rapala el cheapo nail clippers on a lanyard around my neck 1 year and going strong…

We’ve had some in the shop for a bit. The only downside is that they don’t cut flush on blood knots. Otherwise a solid nipper at not a bad price

My pliers cut mono and braid no need for nippers unless I’m cutting tag ends of bloods, then it’s my nippers. When they dull, rare, I just polish them with some 1000 wet sand paper.

My feelings are the same as Brandon’s. They are nice but the blade setback doesn’t cut the blood knot close enough. I use wescott titanium coated scissors the most.

I have them and love em so far, I’m used to using the side cutter on my dancos so they are pretty much perfect for the intended purpose

I carry Fiskars childrens safety scissors and they cut braid like a champ and they are pink. Lol

I bought these about a year ago and have already thrown them out. They were so useless I didn’t even keep them as a back up. Even struggled to cut mono sometimes.

Oh crap….that’s what I need to cut 80% of the time….

$23.37 for a 3 pack on Amazon!

I used the 5” ones and one tip is to take out the screw that holds them together and add in some tef-gel and put the screw back. The sissors last well in the saltwater but that screw won‘t but the tefgel fixes that.

I can’t bring myself to buy $100 nippers or $400 pliers, so I might be missing something here. But my $12 Boomerang nippers have been cutting monofilament, fluorocarbon, and braid reliably for years. They work every time. On any line. I’ve used them on braid from 6# to 80# and 100# hollowcore, monofilament from 4# to 400#, and fluorocarbon from 4# to 60#. They aren’t high tech or sexy. Just reliable. And reasonably priced.

I used Boomerang nippers today. Great little cutting tool. Although my Donnmar pliers cut braid as light as 8# also.

I‘be been using these for several years. At $5 they are disposable if they stop working. I have them on my boats and use them for my line winder work. Not sure how many cuts they can make before getting dull but it is many!
