So to introduce myself, I’ve finally decided to make the plunge and build a simple skiff. I’ve done next to no fiber glass work however was a carpenter when I got out of the army so I chose a simple plywood layout.
What I’m doing is stretching this skiff a bit, no false floor, with pods and some bow rise. This skiff will be a beater on the inside but hope to make the outside presentable. This is my start.
Looks like order of operation is correct for a good start. I see you got the horse before the cart. I’m looking forward to seeing your progress. Thanks for sharing your build.
Yeah I’ve had that 2 stroke for quite a while. She’s actually a friend of mines who passed away, I helped his widow sell a bunch of his fishing stuff, boats, so she had a college fund for her kid. It’s got good mojo no doubt.
This skiff will also have a vented tunnel hull, I’m copying chris morejohns design.
It’s awesome that you are able to put it to good use. Looks to be in great shape. Definitely hasn’t been propped up in the corner of the wood shed somewhere.
Plywood stitch’n’glue? Don’t have to be pretty. Pretty runs out. Does it get you to where you want to fish? My ugly 14’ tin boat goes 22 MPH to where the fish live. Go guy! TJ
Got some work done over the past couple of days, mostly on the back framing for the back deck. Also got some work done on the tunnel just didn’t assemble it yet.
Got some work on the tunnel I’ll take some pics tonight. I peanut butter epoxied the joints to prepare for taping the edges. Started laying out the skin of the boat too hopefully I can get that together this weekend.
I did some fiberglass work on the tunnel. Not gonna lie I’ve done a terrible job of documenting my work. So two pics is all I have and after I used biscuit on the joints. My plan is to fiberglass the entire skin off this whole in two long pieces for strength.
Anyway enough blah blah blah, the two holes in the front are for the vents.
