Moderate For 12wt

So NFC has a 12wt one piece on sale, (psi) but it’s a moderate. I’m currently throwing a china rod, but it’s fast and can shoot to backing fairly easy. I don’t want to loose the distance, but a one piece 12wt really appeals to me. Should I wait till something else comes along or will a moderate get the job done?

I’m in no immediate need, just figured if it was a deal I could grab it and get it ready for next years migration.

I don’t have the juice to launch a 12wt! but I would imagine you would loose range in comparison to your current set up.

Take this with a grain of salt as I haven’t casted one of the the psi blanks but have been told they fall somewhere in between a crosscurrent pro 1 and nrx pro 1. Both are probably some of the most sought after poon sticks out there that are no longer made. I had a 10-12 in the cc but sold the 12 as it was overkill in my mind. I only break out the 11 when I know just about every fish I’m throwing at is over 100lbs.

I have build probably 50 or 60 of the psi blanks they are very good. You can’t really go wrong. NFC has also just released a new 1 piece series of fly blank called c6o2 air carbon. I just ordered a bunch of them to try out.

They are cannons

No experience with NFC, but some take “fast” as synonymous with “stiff” when these are two different aspects of rod performance. For instance, the Asquith is fast, but moderately soft, and is a joy to use for all but very long casts. The NRX+ is stiff and moderately fast, and is beyond a cannon when it comes to distance. What you need for distance is stiffness. Fast/slow is a matter of preference.

I’ve seen Aircarbons, as they’ve been blowing my email up about em, and they sound legit. I like the sale price of that PSI though..

@Loogie this one I currently have is a heifer for sure. Took me a lil bit to figure out to throw it, but it’ll straight put it out there. Dredge with it though and you’ll be eating ibuprofen for a bedtime snack.. lol..

Have you thrown the AC rods?

I know, but the PSI is $75.:joy:

Nope, they just came out. I have a variety of them I’m waiting on. 5, 7, 10, 11, 12. They should have really good recovery being a carbon rod. I’m not sure if the will be made off the same mandrel as the psi blanks or not. I’m excited for the them! psi blanks have been great and I expect these to be the next level with this new technology.

The 8wt psi blank is definitely my favorite. It’s very good and probably may favorite 8wt.

I ordered the 12wt PSI one piece. Figure worst case scenario if I don’t like it, is I can always sell it. :man_shrugging:

I’ve been using the 11wt psi all tarpon season. It’s fine but I like the 12wt more for what ever reason. The 12 is a cannon

Glad to hear.

I just built a psi 12wt. I’ve only cast it with a couple of different lines and only with my off hand because I have pins in a finger on my dominant casting hand.

I’ve cast it with a 240g head (9wt) and a 330g head (11wt)

I don’t think I want any heavier line on it than a 330g head. It casts pretty good with the 240g head, I was worried about being able to get the line out fast but it’s no problem with the lighter line. I will probably land on a 280g (10wt) just to split the difference .
