Lagoon back hook/reds/tarpon

Good evening, Got to go fishing with an old friend up in the lagoon and found a couple of reds tailing early in the morning. These fish were in about 12-18inches of water bit off the shoreline in the back coves on the east side. I haven’t fished up here in about 6 years and it was awesome to see tails popping up and my friend popped a couple on a DOA bait buster. I was on the platform most of the morning trying to throw a skitterwalk topwater when I would see fish that he couldn’t reach, when all of a sudden the lure caught my shirt and the hooks went straight into my back as I set them with a hard cast:) ouch that hurt. My friend and I are both retired Firemedics so he helped me buy removing the skitterwalk from the hooks that remained in my right scapula until that evening when he used a dehooker to yank them out at the house, it was not fun. Anyway back to the report, there was a lot of grass so both of us were struggling to keep it off the line even weedless rigs with fg knots with light leader. The fish were spooky, so anything that made too much noise would blow them out. Later in the day after lunch we ran to one more spot with a nice flat which has about 1-3 foot of water and I was on the front when my buddy says I see a big fin tailing. So as we pushed over we see that its a 5-6 foot tarpon rooting in the grass like a vacuum cleaner sucking up blue crabs. I’d never seen a fish that big in 18inches of water pushing around, so I casted my zman mullet and hoped for the best knowing that I was out gunned. The fish turned on it and followed it all the way to the boat then pow he rolled up and spooked leaving a big hole in the water a foot or two off our bow! It’s was exciting and heartbreaking all and once. After that we had to go and I needed some redneck surgery on my back to get 2 trebles out. God bless and may his face shine tarpoon you:)
