I had planned to go do some scouting ahead of deer season yesterday and my 8 year old wanted to come along. I thought what a great time to instill some basic woodsmanship lessons and spend some quality time with my fishing buddy. After a bacon breakfast, 6 am we were off to the woods. After bouncing down some dirt roads we came to the head of the trail when I thought the front tire fell in a rut. The rut was acually a broke ball joint. Not to be deterred I called my brother to come get us and we went scouting while we awaited rescue. In the end Gideon not only learned how to search out deer sign but how to fix a broke ball joint as well
Hope everyone weekend was mechanically better than mine!

A great way to turn a major suck into a positive life lesson!

Great day for making memories…All memories are not about trophy bucks and coolers full of fish. Some of the best memories are about the other side of life.

Now, imagine those lessons without a cell phone, and you get a glimpse of my childhood.

We were very blessed. Normally there’s no cell service where we are but I had one bar long enough to call my brother.

@fishinpreacher For sure, we still got about an hour and a half of scouting while waiting on my brother. It was nice be able to answer questions he had about the woods. Normally I get questions about godzilla and dinosaurs which I have no idea ![]()
