Knee surgery

Yesterday I had reattachment surgery of my quadricep tendon to my patellar. I went on my annual elk hunt in Idaho and felt an odder than normal pain. I chalked it up as acclimation and soreness. Made it all the way home and went back to the gym and completely tore my tendon from my patellar. It folded me up like a house of cards. I had no control over flexion or extension of my lower leg. The ortho told me he thinks five months back to 75% then a year I’ll be 100%. I can’t move my leg for 8 weeks it’s fully locked in a brace at 0degree dead rise.

Following docs orders to the T. This isn’t going to get me down or hold me back.

Oh man, hope you heal quickly! I had a joint immobilized for 5 weeks and it’s was incredibly difficult to get it moving again. Let’s pray for quick healing!

Hang in there… Yes, the re-hab will take some work - but the results will be worth it. My son had to have a knee re-built and he was later able to enter the Coast Guard after a serious physical… no problem…

:folded_hands:recover well. Patience, hard work and pain will lead to success :+1::flexed_biceps::flexed_biceps:

That’s no good!

The good thing is today’s capability with joint surgeries. That the ortho was able to address and not replace will result in as he says a 100% recovery. Best option. Hang in there.

Yeah it’s not good because I can’t fly to v town and go to POC. Or sit in a vehicle that long :joy:. I could get in a skiff though

Sorry to hear that. I’ve been through two knee surgeries before and just had full ankle reconstruction done last year that really slowed me down. The reconstruction went great, but the nerves that were getting damaged took a long time to recover.

I met someone during my knee PT that had the same surgery as you did and knew another person who recovered from it. Best advice is do exactly what the PT says - nothing more, nothing less. Stretching and getting range of motion is the most important - strength will naturally come, but the stretching is something that has to be done early and often. My knee and ankle have the same range as the others, which I am happy with.

Time will fly by. You’ll think back and remember it sucked, but in hindsight it went by fast.

Thanks. That’s exactly the plan. I rehab and mobilize everyday but this will be specific. Not gonna mess this up. I have fish to catch. Glad to hear your ROM is back. That’s the end goal.

My advice…Metamucil and Stool Softeners.

Pain meds will bind you up like a dry pretzel…

Lots of light soups for a week or so to keep things “fluid”.

Follow the meds…blood thinner (aspirin) if prescribed to prevent clots and if directed keep elevated with ICE…

Your first few REHAB sessions will be a new awaking
Sounds like you got the motivation to get back…

BTW, if you are a fly tyer…now is the time to practice

Think up a fun story to tell people about the injury. I had to have a tricep surgery once and had to wear a crazy brace for 8 weeks. I started telling people it was from a shark attack (actually snowboard injury). You’d be surprised how gullible people are.

Yikes! Prayers for a speedy and complete recovery.

Always a big event

As long as you didn’t need to grab the bottom of the bowl, consider it a moving moment - literally…really bad things happen post knee surgeries and other Oxy-related events.

Oh yeah been in the med field 30 years now. Thanks for the heads up.
