Wanted to share progress on my bery buld. started in august. Will be 18.5, Divinycell and eGlass, using System 3 silvertip slow and quickfair so far. Will use a 60hp Tohatsu, hydro steering, bobs jack plate. Will have cockpit floor as designed, i MAY run stringers all the way to the transom box. Gonna look to keep it pretty basic, bare-bones. Not planning any gauges or switches besides key switch, all gauges will be on the lowrance, lights will be clamp-on, bilge pumps will be auto-only. Center console with cooler for guest seat. I MAY look at making my own poling platform, I made one for my FS14LS though I then switched over to a aluminum one custom made for me. Think I’m gonna go some kind of white for the whole thing.
Thanks hipshot, she sails pretty well! I learned after a few trips out that the mizzen works GREAT as a windvane, holds the nose into the wind when getting the main up and down. Before I learned that, it was tippy chaos getting the sail set/stowed.
Thats a slick design, but from a practical access perspective, you have a lot of space that would be difficult to get to because of those curves. An access panel in the front behind the cooler would solve that, but not while you are driving. Have you considered flattening that curve to allow for a console door?
Disclaimer - I have spent 2 weeks with my head in my console and have the chiro bills to prove it, so console access is very much on my mind!
Yeah, very valid concern. My original design was flat with a door there so, yes, have def considered that and I may ultimately end up there, we’ll see. The only thing I forsee being in there is the trolling battery. My wife will have fly-box storage in the front side of the console. I don’t have an enclosed console on my current boat so am not accustomed to having on ad-hoc storage there. Access to the steering, throttle, power for FF are critical but I can have a huge panel in the side as drawn for that, or possible hinge the top. I’ve got probably 8 months to stew on it before I need it, we’ll see how adventerous I am ultimately. It does afford great leg-room!
I like the design of the console, I would add a door behind the back pad that gives you access to inside the console. The back pad slides off and exposes the door. Great. Feature on my skiff.
