Insurance on home build

Does anyone have or know of an insurance company that covers home built boats ? Geico does not but I haven’t tried any others yet. Any advice would be appreciated.

You might try Progressive. I’ve been happy with my policy (production BT) and the rates are very reasonable. Another possibility is Charter Lakes. They cover a lot of guides and I used them in the past also.

X2 on Progressive, have been with them since USAA pulled out of Florida and they have been easy to deal with from my experience.

Progressive only does liability, no other coverage available for home built boats.

Progressive has been amazing to work with with their agreed upon value policies.

I had one on my old maverick and when it got totaled I had a check in my bank account 3 days after starting the claim.

I have a similar but much more expensive agreed upon value policy for my home built panga and they have been great!

the last place I was able to insure a home built was with Mariners, 949-642-5174, I dealt with Ashley, had to submit some pictures, agreed upon value only, I don’t think they are an insurance co, but they will shop it for you. I was able to get progressive through them when progressive wouldn’t quote me directly, have since sold the boat so not sure if they will be of any help.

You might also check in with Charter Lakes (charterlakes.com). I have an “Agreed value” policy with them on my old 1988 Maverick now since 1996… Don’t know if they issue policies for recreationals, you’ll have to inquire. I’ve been very, very pleased with them over the years…

Thanks for the Info I will give them a try

Not sure who you are talking to, but GEICO has been insuring my homebuilt skiffs for years with agreed value policies. All my HINs start with I think HMD, as that’s how they issue them so it’s not like I’m hiding anything.

That said, I always put a manufacturer name and model name on my applications these days. For instance my current boat I put Bateau.com as the manufacturer as they supplied the plans, and it’s a FS17 custom for the model.
