Hydration

Those flavors are most likely artificial and if it’s sweet and sugar free there’s probably artificial sweetener in it. Not to come across as contrary but I do watch what I consume. People wonder why cancer is so prevalent these days…all the toxic crap in our food, air, water and things absorbed into our skin are all factors and like it or not, that’s a fact. I try to eliminate as much of that toxic crap as possible. Who knows if it will matter later in life, I might die in a wreck or something but if I do live into my 80’s I want to do everything I can right now to ensure I’m not compromising my long term health and more than I already have in my younger years drinking, smoking and consuming toxic crap for all those years. If none of that bothers you that’s all good too!
I go so far as to taking a couple of five gallon water jugs of well water from my house with me on trips so I’m not drinking flouridated city water and bottled water that’s most likely recycled sewage water with a “spring water” label slapped on it. Call me crazy but it’s what I do.

I have a gallon Yeti jug with water and ice, then a 40 oz Yeti filled with Re-Lyte electrolytes. Beers are dependent on mood and company.

Smack, any thoughts on Re-Lyte?

Unflavored relyte is what I drink then I squeeze a lime into it for flavor flav.

I’ve never looked into it and it has never been mentioned on any of the many doctors or people’s sites, channels or accounts I frequently browse and research. I’ll do some digging and revisit.

+1 for Hoist Hydration. I put a couple of the powder pouches in a 46 oz yeti.

I don’t have a death wish but I am known to drink water out of it garden hose from time to time.

Probably better for you than city water or bottled sewage water. Basically the same thing.

on low salt diet so for me its well water with a tea spoon of apple cider vinegar sometime with a little lemon, no plastic containers. If I get any cramping it’s usually late at night after a hard day, a spoon full of yellow mustard and within 5 min. I’m good

I take magnesium supplements at night for leg cramping…

I too watch my salt intake…many of the prepared electrolytes are very high in salt…I find out on the water a large half sour pickle does the job for any cramping.

As well, pure Potassium supplements on the day of the fishing trip is important if you are going to be sweating alot and drinking lots pure water and then peeing all day so you don’t end up with any imbalances…

I’m not joking at all. I am not a doctor but my wife is an ER nurse and workout fanatic who is privy to the falsehoods that are taught to medical professionals and a majority adhere to these myths. While some people are on a low sodium diet for other reasons if you are sweating due to extreme physical activities and sweating out sodium, potassium etc. you have to replace it and sodium helps the body process and absorb these minerals lost. I also don’t believe red meat causes heart disease and the cholesterol BS mainstream big pharma peddling doctors tell everyone. I eat nearly two sticks of butter a day and the only seasoning I use on my meat and eggs is sea salt (not that iodized crap which is another mainstream myth). Those are the same doctors that tell you lots of carbohydrates like grain and sugar are part of a healthy diet, vaccines are going to save your life and mainly eating meat, butter and eggs is unsustainable. The mainstream food pyramid we were all taught is inverted, there is no arguing it if you actually look at what it shows you and look at how many morbidly obese people are wobbling around and taking enough pharmaceuticals to make a meal these days compared to back in the day when most people were fit and healthy just eating lots of meat and not living off pharmaceuticals.

What’s one of the main ingredients for hydration? Sodium. It’s why one of the most well known sports drinks (Gatorade) tastes salty and these hydration elixirs main ingredient is sodium.

Fun fact. In the local plants years ago, right beside the water cooler were salt tablets for the taking. Then I guess everyone got PC.

no doubt the body needs salt but if you have any kidney problems you have to be careful, turns you into a label reader. Pickle juice works better than mustard for me but the grand kids devour them

It’s a shame what lengths people will go to to mislead consumers. The FDA allows loopholes that are very deceptive as to what the ingredients actually are and they can absolutely leave out some ingredients if they choose to not list them. For example, “natural flavors” can be any number of things and as I previously stated, LMNT totally leaves out the 500mg of maltodextrin in their hydration powders.

When I worked as an ironworker we had salt tablets at the water station. Most guys would take one before ever starting to work.
When you came in to work, your shirt may be blue. But when you went home it was covered in blotches of white. Gotta replace it!

Depending on who you listen to, there is a lot of conflicting information regarding health between conventional medicine and a new movement of more functional/nouveau medicine and @Smackdaddy53 has drank the Koolaid and gone deep down the rabbit hole. Before you fire back Mack I’m on your side. I don’t shy away from salt, fat and red meat which goes completely against what conventional medicine preaches. I also will be very resistant to get on any “pills” unless absolutely necessary. But yeah, conventional medicine says salt is bad for hypertension. It also says high fat and red meat is bad for your cholesterol. I think its a lot more nuanced that that but I’m not a real doctor, just a dentist :rofl:

consuming the right amount of salt daily is how I got off hypertension medication. I consume 4k mg os sodium in electrolytes daily. That doesn’t include the salt I put on my foods as well.

There are 9,000 mg of sodium in one liter of IV fluid. Let that sink in for a min and realize just how much salt the body actually needs.
