Anyone seen this or used one? Wonder if it a better alternative to pushing a hook thru and cutting the barb?
Nice idea!
Buddy bought me one of those - I hope I never need to use it. I think he’s seen my “impeccable” fly casting form and figured it was only a matter of time.
Having had to push a few hooks through, I’ll definitely try this as an alternative!
A long loop of heavy mono or paracord is all you need. I’ve popped many hooks out this way. Circle hooks are different though…
I suspect that in your line of work, that’s a more common occurrence than most - and probably not many of those were self inflicted!
I have a fishing buddy who is a registered nurse, specializing in ER work. He taught the string method to the ER Drs and nurses at his hospital, and it made a huge difference. Some ER Drs were reluctant to try it, but patients who had a choice overwhelmingly chose the quick string jerk.
I have some great video of me a few years ago in Utah pushing one through with pliers. I was on a roll with the spicy commentary.
I’ve seen it, it’s beer. Basically the same principle as the mono loop trick, which I’ve had to employ a few times.
The volunteer is legit. ![]()
That looks like a really bad spot…
Ouch. Wish I didn’t see this one. ![]()
Right after I pushed the point thru on my cousin’s hand. Meaty part of the palm so not too much pain for him. Good size long shank sharp circle hook…see my dikes at the ready to cut off the barb.
I can’t unsee that ![]()
You should ask Frank to fix this for you.
Missed the hook-set on a bass in the backyard just the other week. Bit down on my sweatshirt and pretended my leg was a shark’s mouth and yanked. Last one in my palm took doctors to remove from my muscle ![]()
That’s an awesome pattern. I caught my 30.5" PB speckled trout on a baby trout One Knocker.
